Snell is no contract next year.
Dedmon is 1m buyout next year.

Snell is meh this year.
Dedmon is meh- this year.

If you compare Snell's shooting to Bembry's shooting the upgrade is pretty obvious for the Hawks. They were last in 3PT% last season.

There are dozens ways to slice this where I have Hawks winning. To replace Dedmon might cost 3m. To replicate Snell might cost 5.5? And it opens up more time to play with Collins at center, especially if they get Gallo.
For flippable at the trade deadline, I have Snell possibly returning a bunch more.

I just really love this for Atlanta. If Atlanta gave up a decent 2nd rounder, I would still have it a good move. I'm waiting on that news, or a bundle of cash?

Also curious to see what happens with Ariza now. Are they intending to keep him? Move him in an another trade? It would look awfully silly to trade one veteran expiring 3&D wing to Atlanta and then buy the other one out, when they could have just sent him instead.

And this has to be missing a pick going to Detroit right?

yeah, does Detroit have any capspace left?

This trade is cap neutral (although they do take on a small guarantee for Dedmon next year IIRC). I think they had about $9M in cap going in to today and will have the same coming out.

Doesn’t Dedmon make 1.2 mil more than Snell? But saving Thomas’ cap hold is why it’s cap neutral?

I know 1.2 mil is not major but paying the worse player more money doesn’t make sense.

Then add in you have a younger and better free agent at the same position as the more expensive worse player..

And it really just doesn’t add up.

Edit:

I know this is frowned upon so probably bad idea. But we better see some mention of how much it hurts to lose Dedmon’s leadership after hyping it for a full year.

The news says Detroit is not done trading. Maybe Dedmon is being moved. Maybe there is a big SNT for Wood in the works and they need Dedmon this season for depth.

So far nothing else being sent is listed.

Forgot Dedmon was so lightly guaranteed. Fine for both. Detroit must actually want Dedmon. Between this and the big they drafted on the first round, guess they're ready for Wood to go

Don't let Snell fool you, he might look like Pascal Siakam's long lost brother but he is hot garbage.

Heh, maybe they did try to send Ariza instead. Then remembered he got his feewings hurt when Trae 'megged him last season.

I would not mind trading Zach Collins in a S&T for Wood

I am not fooled by Snell. He has been in the league long enough for everyone to know what he brings. The Hawks kept their cap and simply added a better shooter than what they had last year. Bembry may be playing overseas next season.

There's been a prevailing feeling this was the case for quite some time.

Shame- good player, I liked him and would have liked to have kept him.

But hey, at least we're tanking now.

Snell will hit open shots, but that's pretty much all he brings. He was basically out of the Bucks playoff rotation despite that shooting (and how badly they need spacing around Giannis) before the Pistons traded for him. That should say something.

Wonder if they could turn the ariza trade onto a S&T and keep their first or something along those lines

ATL waiving Khyri. Wonder if that's just to make an open roster spot for another trade. He's supposed to be a pretty good point of attack defender w some ball skills right? Wouldn't mind my thunder picking him up

Yeah I think not keeping him on a long-term deal is better than signing him and hoping you can flip him down the road. Maybe you cost yourself a little value, but you also prevent getting stuck with a contract the way so many teams do.

I was excited to see Weaver get a chance to be the man and this deal not withstanding(its really whatever) I've really liked what he's done so far.

Hawks still need a vet backup PG. They also guaranteed Goodwins $1.7 deal who is also a PG.

James Edwards, who covers the Pistons for The Athletic, tweeted that he's hearing Dedmon may be on the move again. Edwards is pretty well plugged in, so I'd imagine we get some more clarity on this deal soon.

Is he related to former Pistons great James Edwards? Has to be right?

The Hawks created another 915,000 in cap space. Khyri is now getting and only counts as 745,000 of his 1.66 Million salary this season.

I think they were +$500k before the waive, so they created ~$400k
