He’s the 2020 version of Ryan Hollins.

If he's as good for me in 2K as Ryan Hollins was, I'm all in on Richards.

MJ and Mitch just can't help themselves when it comes to drafting players from... Kentucky?

4 drafted rookies and a 2-way so far; roster's getting tight. Not a lot of room for FAs, so both these bigs may spend more time in Charlotte than Greensboro.

Richards was a 5-star recruit that was smart enough to stay in college because he knew he needed more time to develop. I love that, more guys need to follow that example (what's up Nico Mannion).

It’s not a given we will sign all second round picks is it?

It's not. Since we've only signed one 2-way I'd guess one of them would be signing the other. Plus there's the "domestic stash" where the player just signs directly with Greensboro and they'd hold onto the rights; but that seems less likely.

I have a feeling Mitch regards these three as more than typical second round fodder. It would be a shrewd move IMO to lock them all up on cheap 4 year deals similar to what Chicago did with Daniel Gafford last year. If one of them blows up, you've then got them for several seasons and if they don't, they're still easily movable as trade throw ins. Nothing worse than signing your second round pick for a shorter term deal only to watch them blow up after year two after you've spent the time developing them and then losing them in FA to higher bidders.

So, basically free.

A 2024 2nd rounder? New Orleans must be trying to get on our good side. That's such a great trade for the #42. At worst, they get our #31 in 4 years. It's more likely we'll at least be a fringe playoff team by then and they'll get about the same pick back.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

Every competent team locks up these 2nd rounder and undrafted players to those no-risk 4-year deals. It would be nice to have Devonte' cheap for one extra year wouldn't it

Personally I prefer 3-year deals (and the team generally does these too). Difference is after 3 years a 2nd rounder becomes a RFA, but if you go with 4 they become unrestricted.

Also you can't sign them to more than 2 years unless you use cap space or the MLE (which shouldn't be a issue this year).

I didn't rate him high during the season but now that we have signed him I reviewed some more footage and I like this signing a lot. I think he's better than Wiseman. (I think every center is better than Wiseman lol). He is a better signing than the drafting of Carey imo.

Nick Richards >>> Carey >>>> Wiseman Either way if Wiseman were here I would have him 3rd on our Center depth chart

Richards
Carey
Wiseman

So this is good. I would consider adding Richards to my 3rd pick
