Just can't get over passing on Maledon, had we got him and Harris woulda been extremely happy with this draft. As individual player I'm fine with Flynn, just really upset that we fanned on the opportunity to add Maledon. Coulda really improved our length at the position and I believe Theo will end up the better player with a similar impact to SGA where as Malachi is clearly another Fred, just disappointing.
I'm on the other end of the spectrum than you. Not overly pumped with this Jalen Harris although hopefully he turns out to be awesome. Leading up to the draft I saw a guy that I believed could easily be a solid if not better starting point guard in Flynn, I was just conflicted by the fact that we already have Lowry and are expecting Fred back making him a little redundant. I did however think he was the best player available in regards to all the guys Raps talked to pre-draft, except for the big from Maryland that went 10th. His instincts are just so good on both ends and feel for the game and skill level high.
I do agree with you that a big guard like Maledon would fit a little better than another 6'1", but in hindsight when it comes to drafts 5 years down the road, you always look at who was the great players everyone missed on, and it doesn't really matter if you already had someone in that position, you want to make sure you have taken that guy, because there is only a handful of guys in every draft that truly impact winning and at pick 29 they aren't obvious. The guy with great production, great athletecism and young for their draft class are all taken in the lottery. It's the guys like Flynn who have some question marks against them like age, lack of height/ athletecism, etc.
If I had to knock Malachi on one thing, he will probably need a screen to get his game off, but you know who else did as well - 2 time MVP Steve Nash. Long story short, I think Malachi's toughness, craftyness, motor, skill level are much more important than his height and athletecism, especially since he's proven hes pretty damn good defensively. I think we have a good one here.
