Agent looking to kill this so he can a bigger payday elsewhere.

So here’s where we’re at with today’s theory:
-Bucks and Kings negotiate a sign and trade for BB. Clearly seems BB and his agent knew about the deal. Doesn’t make sense for them not to so let’s run with it.

- Deal leaked to Woj and confirmed by second party. Let’s assume the three main parties here are BB’s agent, Bucks and Kings.

- Woj tweets it as a done deal. Other teams get **** and complain about tampering.

- NBA not happy in background and put a rocket up Kings and Bucks. BB distances himself from deal. Possible smokescreen to salvage deal.

-NBA still not happy and open investigation into tampering. Deal is dead (for now).

- Ersan loses $7mill as bucks have to cut him rather than guarantee his salary with no where to trade him.

- Bucks Realgm begins plans for full frontal assault on NBA HQ.

Anything I’m missing?

I still think we got played by BB and his agent.

He used us to set the market for BB rather than go through a protracted UFA in a down year for FAs. Once he had the 4/60 deal locked in with us he took it to Atlanta who said they’d do better. Agent then nixes the deal by leaking to Woj.

But Woj is a good journo. He would’ve corroborated whatever he heard with another major source (either us or Kings). Lasry’s ego may have got the better of him in confirming it.

Still, I don’t believe this is some grand plan by the NBA to screw us so Giannis leave. BB’s agent has form here. He’s playing everyone to get more $$ for BB.

This reminds me of 2013 when the Bucks were going to get Josh Smith, Kyle Korver and Jeff Teague. That almost worked out.

Don't get Giannis if that trade goes through, maybe that means there are good things to come?

League has an agent problem (especially the orchestrating big wig ones) and not a small market franchise tampering problem. “Opens an investigation”. Just whack. As whack as Stern rooting for the Sixers in the BC in eye view of Ray Allen’s mom.

I think it does a disservice to the player to separate them from their agents too much. The agent represents the player. It’s not like they’re going around their clients backs.

So Bogdan and Giannis aren't actually friends then?

This Ranne guy is a leaky boat of an agent bastard.

Right. There’s no doubt Bogdan and his agent played a huge part in this **** up. But Woj doesn’t hit send unless he doubles back with the Bucks. The Lasrys are his business partners.

Looks like a team effort for sure. Strategy by Ranne, impulsive blabber by Alex.

What I don't get is Woj would know that FA period has not yet begun so to break the news would be to jeopardize the trade as tampering right? Does Woj not know no matter if the trade is confirmed or not, if he opens his mouth, he is basically saying "hey look, the Bucks are tampering".

Either Woj knew full well it was tampering and he wanted to expose it, or he didn't and is actually just an oblivious reporter that wants to break the story first come what may.

The Bucks should have publicly denied any interest the second that Woj broke the news instead of sitting there quietly until rival NBA execs complained.

I think the Bogdan/Giannis friendship has been overstated. Maybe they’re friendly and have a mutual respect for each other, but it appears that Giannis doesn’t really have “friends.”

I don’t know Woj’s intentions, but I do know there’s an insane emphasis put into being first to break news. Borderline maniacal. I would guess Woj got fired up seeing Kevin O’Connor tiptoeing around being the one to break it and laid the hammer down. Woj has been known to block people who tweet “Shams had it first!” at him when something breaks. It’s very real to him.

Quick related aside that involves poltics but is not a political statement: I have it on excellent authority that when Shams put out his tweet about a (soon to be ex) world leader and his wife testing positive for Covid as quickly as he did, it was only because he had already written the tweet and saved it his drafts folder. Once he saw the news break from a trusted source he let it fly within seconds in order to appear to be in the loop or have sources in the White House or whatever. Maintaining that image is a huge part of the deal for these guys. Wonder how many tweets are drafted and ready to roll ahead of time.
