Mmmh...

No 30 days rule, then?

OK... no idea why but there was something in my mind stuck with this.

I think I saw something floating around about Rubio not being able to be traded with another player for 30 days, but its fine if he is traded by himself or with picks

Good for Ricky, he deserved it. I guess I kinda like the Wolves roster? Solid PG and SG (D'Lo), great modern C, and a bunch of guys in between - some of them could turn out to be good, or are servicable as is. If one of Culver or Edwards becomes as advertised (not sure about either, but maybe in lesser roles, 3rd/4th options on O, and play solid D) this team could be fighting for the playoffs - and most likely come up a bit short, but that's not a dissing them on my part, just west is brutal, and will be even more packed with the Klay injury.

Really good work by Morey moving those pieces around . Getting rid of Horford - and I think they got a draft pick besides Green was solid. Curry for Richardson. Better fit all around. Morey is good at his job thats for sure.

The Sixers just got a whole helluva lot better

López was a sure fire guy to be traded at that salary so it would seem he wanted his freedom to choose where he plays at the cost of some money

I think the answer will be within his next contract. 4years, and above 100 mill for sure. Last big payday for him - maybe in NY with FVV? Not sure of their cap situation off the top of my head, but I believe they have some, and they could make some moves with all their big men.... FVV, Hayward, RJ, Toppin, Mitchell - not the worst starting 5 ever, hm?

I'm surprised NY didn't make a play for Rubio. If he can bring out the best in our young guys, imagine what he could do with Barrett, Knox, Toppin and Robinson.

It sounds like teams like NY and the Hawks will offer AT LEAST a 1 year deal at that cost. Or, Boston will give him a new deal that makes up for it long term (short loss, long gain).
No way he opts out without assurance he has options to recoup that. I am willing to bet he's one of the first players to sign this evening.

Regarding the Bucks/Kings situation, it wouldn't shock me if the deal was legit but the NBA stepped in and said it can't happen now because of optics.
They probably said 'now we have to do an investigation'. They'll go through the motions and say they didn't have enough evidence. Basically telling the teams, 'yo, cut it out in the future or else we WILL be harsh next time'

I know that if Klay is out for the season, then GSW can apply for a disabled player exception of half his salary (giving them another ~$17m exception) but does it also reduce the tax they pay? Surely if insurance is covering the salary of a guy out for the season, it would also cover the tax incurred on that salary?

Klay's injury might end up saving them $100m this season.

In addition to Thybulle, they have Mike Scott, Zhaire Smith, Shake Milton and I think they have a non guaranteed option on Furkan Korkmaz. Not sure if they picked up his option or not yet.

It doesn't teally make sense to me for them to charge tax on a guy that is out for the season. Especially on a guy that's been out for two seasons. And if Oubre's $14 million salary really costs $80 million like they say, or an additional $66 million in taxes, that must mean they are paying more than $3.50 per $1 of additional salary at this point.

When they discuss the CBA, I wonder who brings up the tax? Or is this just something Silver and his cronies decide? That doesn't make sense because Silvers basically works on behalf of the players and owners, who own everything.

You'd think if a player was deemed out before the season they'd get an injury and tax exception. Of course they'd still have to pay the player's salary, which is almost injury enough...but it impacts competitiveness in the league and a tax like that when you can barely field a starting lineup because you have a few high salaries with one of them being out, is crazy.

I think max contracts have gotten too big too. I know some think the stars should make even more and everyone else less, but I think it just kills team flexibility when guys make any more than like 25% of the cap..that's what Booker makes...but a guy like Paul will make over 41% of the cap next year, assuming it stays flat again, and with Booker's salary, they will make close to 75% of the cap.
