Re: 2020 Draft & Free Agency
I like the Cassius Stanley pick. Obviously not tremendously high expectations for a 54th overall pick, but he seems like a kid with genuine potential. He certainly has NBA level athleticism, he has a crazy transition offense highlight reel. And honestly, as everyone is alluding to above, he has a genuine shot to see the floor at times this year, especially if Justin doesn't return.
Also, anyone feel like the draft coverage in a remote environment was better than normal coverage? It was nice to see the draftees celebrate with their friends and family instead of being forced into having awkward interviews with an ESPN anchor. I was pleasantly surprised overall. The one-question thing they had going with every pick kept it easy and they had plenty of guests on throughout the night as the picks rolled in. Maybe ESPN will learn some things moving forward.

Guaranteed salary = $124.6m
Tax threshold = $132.6m
So basically $8m to fill 3 roster spots
Sign Justin to something begining at $6m, and then sign Cassius and another SRP to one of those $898k contracts?

Look on the right
You’re missing the dead money from Monta Ellis. $8m minus $2.2m of dead money is $5.8m.

Also, what other 2nd rounder? We only drafted the one in Cassius.

Right
Maybe the team should have acquired one or two more 2RPs in the draft

Yeah. Would’ve helped cap wise, but if they didn’t see the players being fits or useful, better to not acquire them. Wasting less money is still wasting money.

Re: 2020 Draft & Free Agency
Maybe I've just not paid enough attention (likely), but Is Hayward REALLY an upgrade over what the team has now? I keep wondering if his Indiana connections play a role in the enthusiasm of some fans towards getting him. Would the idea lose some appeal were he from anywhere else?
As I say, maybe I've just not paid enough attention, but I don't recall watching him and thinking "Oh, this is a guy the Pacers really need to go after". Was he a better player before whatever injuries he has had?

Ultimately, yes on both accounts.
He’s pretty similar in some aspects to Warren, but his playmaking/distributing is much better, which is the difference between the two. Both serviceable defenders and both really good offensive players off the dribble and off the ball. But Hayward, in a vacuum, is a better player.

OK. I trust your opinion and appreciate the input. Another question though. It would appear Hayward is either at his peak or perhaps just past it. Closer to the end of his career than he is to the start of it. It would also appear that Warren may still be on an upward swing career wise. Younger and likely has more good years left. Does that change your thoughts to any extent?

Yes, Hayward is older, but he’s also returning more so to what he was pre ankle injury. I think the big difference is that Hayward is a guy that can get his own shot, and create shots for others, while Warren is more of a bucket getter that can create his own shots out of nothing.
But ultimately, it’s more likely that Turner is dealt than Warren.

Possibly. The Indiana connection is pretty cool, but I think there's another element.
I pulled this off of the Pacers Reddit, and there's just part of the fanbase ready for the team to try something higher profile than they've done in the past few years. Grabbing guys like Collison, Warren, and Brogdon were solid, underrated moves, but they lacked any real "sex appeal". Even if he's been injured the last few years, Hayward was a sought after max contract FA at one point.
He might come and rejuvenate his career. Other players have done it here, and that's just a bigger headline than something like Brogdon, who was really just a (very good) small market third banana moving to another small market to be second banana.

It's Begley, so take it with a grain of salt:
I'll lose confidence in KP if we send either to Boston though.

I can't help but notice that Boston just traded one of their centers.

With the other reports of negotiations, this implies that Pritchard was just offering Doug/Lamb/Leaf
If it’s true, that is
