As someone who wants us to find a fair deal for Middleton more than most people, this trade is an easy no for me.

I'm good with Augustine as backup PG if it's a cheap deal.

Ok, time to toot the Virginia horn. He won't help us this season (well, I guess it's possible, but unlikely) and like any UDFA, might not ever make it in the NBA, but I'd like the Bucks to look at signing Mamadi Diakite to a G-League (is that the letter we use now?) deal.

Strengths: Excellent shot blocker - springy and has great timing; versatile, smart defender who uses his base well; nice mid-range jumper; developed a solid three-ball for a big (37-ish percent, I think, last season?)

Weaknesses: poor handle; not much in the way of post moves - more of a face-up post guy; skinny, needs to bulk up; not a poor passer, but at UVa, once he got the ball in the post, he was most likely not passing it back out; not really a playmaker, more of just a finisher

I think he could have a chance as as developmental 3-and-D-type PF. He can guard the post and the perimeter, his shot has come along and can get better, and things like post moves and strength can be developed in the pros. If he gains strength, he could easily be useful on defense in the NBA. Offensively, if he continues to develop his outside shot, he could be a pick-and-pop stretch-4 as well as a good lane-cutter for some oops and layups.

Also, the Virginia Cavaliers are still the champs until unseated:

Split the MLE on Matthews and Augustin. Bi-annual exception on Justin Holiday (bro discount). RoLo back on a minimum once the market dries up.

Holiday/Augustin/Mason
Matthews/DDV/Merrill
Middleton/Holiday/Nwora
Giannis/DJ/Thanasis
BroLo/RoLo/???

Who wants to tell me that roster isn't just as good as last year but arguably better equipped for the playoffs?

Agreed, there's moves that can be made to essentially run it back but with Jrue instead of playoff Bledsoe. Everyone is pissed right now, I am pissed right now, but as long as Giannis signs we're going to be really good next year and a bunch of years after that. I'm not on bored with the sky is falling stuff. If Giannis doesnt sign then yes, time to panic.

Sign DJ. DJx2. Sign other Holliday. Hollidayx2. Resign Robin. Lopezx2. Antetokounmpox2. If we can't win the championship war we can at least win the meme war.

I vote yes on this one. I thought he should have been drafted. And all UVA players are very well coached. I remember he came up as a very limited offensive player with high energy but worked very hard to develop a jump shot. Always seemed like a tough interior defender who hustled his arse off. I think he can play some small-ball center. Put it this way - I think he's the kind of player Giannis would enjoy mentoring and would come to work early every day and leave late every day.

Giannis and Middleton re-do their deals for league minimum.

Bucks sign Ingram and AD.

Giannis and Middleton re-do their deals for the max afterwards.

Jackpot

Sorry, I have to laugh to keep from crying. The NBA is a joke at this point.

While other teams improve more. We can't be starting Matthews again at the 2 - I can't believe Giannis would be happy with that. And we're too thin up front - RoLo's not the answer. If I'm Giannis, I'm thinking we need to improve more than that.

Christian Wood to MLE, Justin Holiday to BAE, Jeff Teague, Shaq Harrison and either Meyers Leonard
or Alex Len to minimum deals

Jrue/Teague/Mason
DDV/Justin/Harrison/Merrill
Middleton/Justin/Harrison/Nwora
Giannis/Wood/DJ/Thanasis
BroLo/Wood/Len

I hope we realize DJ Augustine fell apart last year.

Could hope that Giles goes under the radar. can't see anyone offering him much more than the minimum and he would be a great option off the bench. He was playing great before the season ended

It'd be a huge waste of the MLE to split it on Matthews/Augustin. Go after the best player possible with the full MLE. Until John Hammond, Augustin never made more than 3.5M/year. He's 33 and has never played for a contender. No one's going to pay him anywhere close to what he made last season, he fell off a cliff and was relegated to the bench. I would only take Matthews or Augustin on a vet min, or at most the BAE. If you can get Matthews, Augustin, and Holiday for the MLE, 3M each, then maybe. Bring Ersan back on a vet min. But then you need to trade DDV/DJ for the best possible piece.

You do realize the NBA won't let us play all 6 brothers at one time, right?

Duh. Get Svi. Not sure why I forgot about him.

ETA: I guess because he's not actually a FA! Still, get him.

You'd be adding more shooting off the bench to an already 60-win core and replacing the universally agreed upon weak link in the starting 5 (Bledsoe) from the last two postseasons with a theoretical talent and fit upgrade in Holiday. Yeah, we completely mortgaged our future for it, but I don't know how you guys could convince yourself that this team with those upgrades isn't in a great position to contend for a title. Bogdan or no Bogdan.
