They could always fold it into the MLE later or figure out what order they want to do things if they wish to avoid the hard cap that using the BAE would cause.

1 year deals are so odd, Lakers don't have much cap in 2021.

1 year deal if it stays the BAE is odd, too. Seems like a player option, or team option, or something would make sense, since if it's used this year, it cannot be used next year.

Why not just go with 2 year BAE with team option so at least you have choice of salary ballast next season for trades. This is what Miami is doing.
