At one point, draft express thought this guy would be a first round pick.

I never looked at Mane, but I know some people liked him. I'm just glad we used a two-way contract on an actual prospect. Baby steps.

Mane's just a prospect. If he pans out good for us. If he fails it won't hurt us in any way, given his type of contract.

Re: Magic sign UDFA guard Karim Mané to a two-way contract
His strengths and weaknesses make him look like a MCW type, maybe he develops for a year behind MCW and replaces him ?
If he improves his jump shot he could eventually become a solid first guard off the bench type, like a Dennis Schroeder. If not an MCW replacement would be positive value for a 2nd round pick let alone a post draft pickup !

Re: Magic sign UDFA guard Karim Mané to a two-way contract
This is another reason why The Magic traded #45.
They saw someone they liked (Karim Mane) that they knew they could get as an undrafted Free Agent. This happened last year with Dequan Jeffries who unfortunately turned down a Two-Way Deal to try and make the 15 Man Roster which was not ready for.
Jeffries was then claimed by Sacramento and given wait for it, a Two-Way Deal.
Everyone would have been fine with Mane at #45 and now The Magic have him on a Two-Way Deal with Two future Seconds.
I maintain to everyone dealing #45 for Two future seconds (You usually can't get more than one for a 2nd around #45) was a good deal.

I'm telling y'all...
WeHamm are building a talent incubator a la the Tampa Bay Rays.
We fans look at "this year" or a three-year plan.
But I think WeHamm got the job from Martins and ownership by selling them on developing a culture and development system.
I strongly believe this, and that we're going to see more integration and expansion of our team in Lakeland.
For evidence, we hired Weltman and Hammond in May 2017 to five-year deals. That fall, we officially rolled out the Lakeland Magic after previously operating with the Erie Bayhawks in Pennsylvania.
I think WeHamm came in with, at a minimum, a ten-year plan on the idea that they hit certain benchmarks by years 4 and 5 so that they reevaluate their deal and trajectory.

That's a weham way of looking at it, while the rest of us are wondering....why not draft jay scrubb\nwora\mannion\riller etc and still sign mane to a 2 way deal? Hard to imagine that bacon is better than any of them, so they could of taken Bacon's spot and we still get mane?

No no no... we needed that “valuable” roster spot for Jon Teske. 8-D Chess.

Now we know why Martins signed off which would support my theory!
