IIRC Stretch is double remaining length of contract + 1 year. So Both McGruder and Dedmon can be stretched over five seasons. Dedmon's 14M owed can be stretched out to >$3M a season, so stretch him and Detroit, or whichever team he's traded to, opens up $10M is cap space. McGruder's stretched cap hit would be $1M over next five years - so shaving off $4M this year off his cap number.

This could be why Weaver has been indicating he's going to be aggressive in free agency. $11M in FA money plus the ability to get 15M more while taking on $4M in combined stretch over each of the next four seasons.

If Detroit stretched Snell it would have been over three seasons.

I get it. But to torch ~5 mil in cap room over the next 5 years, after just getting off Josh Smith’s stretch, I’m not a fan. Obviously A LOT would have to happen to turn us into a destination, but that’s $5 mil gone per year with no redemption during a period we should have flexibility in the overall cap situation.

It’s more like roughly $3 million . Dedmon has like $14 million guaranteed. But I agree, it shouldn’t happen .

You know what youre getting with meyers. It's still not a given what you'll get with wood. I'll just sit back and watch what DreamWeaver does.

Nope, timing is everything with NBA free agency. All these deals are only agreed upon at this point and aren't officially on the books. It's looking like if the Pistons bring Wood back it will only be for sign-and-trade purposes (unless Blake is traded first instead), but they should still have the flexibility to do so. Then after that happens they sign Plumlee, Okafor, Jackson, etc. by using cap space or getting to exceptions if they have t go over the cap.

Only way today makes sense is if Rose AND Griffin aren’t on the team.

I’m staying calm through it. I honestly love getting Okafor and Jackson cheap. Those are the types of deals we need. Don’t understand the Plumlee deal, but not going to overreact.

If Rose and Griffin get dealt and something happens with Wood involving us, maybe some of this is for a reason.

Josh Jackson is a knucklehead. But he still has a ton of untapped potential and he’s playing for his hometown team. That pick could be good for us. Especially with Casey coaching.

So currently we have 15 players right?

G: Killian Hayes, D Rose, Musa, Svi, Hands (2 way), Lee (2 way)

F: Sekou, Blake, Josh Jackson, Ariza, Saddiq Bey, Mcgruder

C: Plumlee, Okafor, Bradley, Dedmon, Stewart

That is 15 players with two 2 way players.

If i had to guess, I would say Ariza, Dedmon and Bradley won't be on the opening night rosters either by trade/stretching/buyout

That would leave us with

G: Killian Hayes, D Rose, Musa, Svi, Hands (2 way), Lee (2 way)

F: Sekou, Blake, Josh Jackson, Saddiq Bey, Mcgruder

C: Plumlee, Okafor, Stewart

with 2/3 spots to go to minimum vets or flyers on young guys

PG: Hayes/Rose

SG: Svi/Musa

SF: Bey/ Josh Jackson

PF: Blake/Sekou/Stewart

C: Plumlee/Okafor/Stewart

Is how I would look at the rotation so far

If we trade for Westbrook and keep Blake and Rose, then we definitely aren’t rebuilding.

Anything could happen. This has been a wild off-season so far. At least we aren’t mortgaging our future.

Today just doesn’t make sense. Okafor and Jackson did. The Plumlee deal is a head scratcher. That’s a deal you make if you’re still trying to win. The young kids will lose. Veterans win more games
