Re: Mason Plumlee 3/25
Well. My rationalization.
They know Emoni Bates is coming. Given the state this franchise has been in over the last 15 years it would be irresponsible to not put themselves in position to get him. You need some adults in the room to teach Sekou / Hayes / Stewart / Bey how to be professionals. They are less concerned about an overpay if it means surrounding the kids with pros who’ll show them the right way without threatening wins.

Tolliver, Barea, Sefolosha are available "adults" that probably could of been had for a minimum contract.

I’d rather bring Eldon Campbell out of retirement before signing Plumlee for three years.

Oh I completely agree.
I’m just looking for a bright side, compared to the more likely reality Gores is delusional, thinks Blake - Rose can compete for an 8 seed, wants a token playoff appearance and Weaver is setting about burning cap space on fringe starters to support them.

Re: Mason Plumlee 3/25
I felt like on draft night some of the questionable elements of his moves were justifiable given the quality of the three drafted as a whole - disregarding that second round pick. Three years for a thirty year old center that can't shoot? I don't know how you finish free agency and run into the next season with this move feeling good.

He is the only non rookie deal we’ll still have under contract after Blake is gone.
It’s a a signing that doesn’t make a lot of sense but let’s not go too nuts here.

I’m super disappointed and can’t figure any justification.
Because there isn't any justification for it especially since the contract is fully guaranteed. This is the kind of deal you make if you are a team in danger of not hitting the salary floor. You sure as hell don't make this kind of deal on the first day of free agency. You leave yourself with as much cap room as possible so you can be the 3rd or 4th team in a deal to take on a contract or two in return for picks. This move is just garbage.

My concern is that this type of move is a deal that is counter productive for taking teams. We drafted Stewart in round one, traded for Dedman (I don’t see any team wanting him so I think that we are stuck with him), and signed Okafor (I actually like that signing). Just isn’t making much sense.

This gave me flashbacks to SVG signing Langston out the gate.

I’m going out on a limb and assuming that while I disagree with Weaver on his judgement re: Plumlee that he’s not a total idiot.
He didn’t commit all of this money to a guy who plays the same position as a guy he drafted in round one AND a guy he just traded for. We’ve already heard reports Dedmon isn’t sticking around. I’m gonna assume that’s the case.

I actually like Plumlee. Kind of a weird choice in our situation, though. Wood must have some silly dumb offer lined up that we know about and said “go”.

Re: Mason Plumlee 3/25
Any chance that Blake is getting traded soon?
Blake, Desmond, Wood - even if all 3 are gone, we'd still have Plumlee, Baynes and Stewart (and Okafor?) on the roster.
Why do we need so many bigs, otherwise?

You know the Baynes thing was a joke, right?

Don’t know the terms yet, team option on the 3rd year and partial guarantee on the 2nd would be great. trades are also coming y’all.

Isola is reporting Wood to the Rockets at 3/27. I'm absolutely furious.

well shoot dang. I mean that’s honestly a decent contract for the player he is, but it’s a little strange for him to be getting it from us. he’s gonna be starting for sure, hopefully he can play his way into a trade for a decent asset in a year or two.
