Odds are the contract becomes an albatross we eventually have to attach a 1st rounder to get rid of.

Yeah, not the Bertans deal I dreamed of exactly but the Harris signing instantly makes it look better.

Re: Potential Free Agent Signings
Davis Bertans is not worth $16m a year. That's pretty straightforward.
But... so what? If we can afford the deal, & if it doesn't hamstring us, fine.... It's fun to watch him shoot the ball.
I'd feel better about the deal if we'd gotten 5 or 6 rookies, what can I say?

Doubt it. Bertans is never going to forget how to shoot. He will only be 32 in the final year.

In any case, Collins wants a max contract, which we can't give him.
Zach Lowe on his podcast said that Collins is probably going to be available on the market because of Okongwu and Capela and they have struggled with finding his position. I don't think they would take Rui for John Collins, that deal could have happened maybe during Rui's rookie season. The value is Rui is decreasing as the league realizes who he is, a net negative offense and defense dinosaur. Collins is bad on defense but special on offense. And yes, we can't overpay Collins.
This Gallinari signing means Collins is out the door.

Re: Potential Free Agent Signings
With Davis & Gill plus 2 rookies we are at something like $123m for 13 players. To me it would make sense to sign Mathews to a regular contract -- call it $1m.
That would leave us enough $ under the tax to sign a FA for the full MLE. Common sense suggests that it should be a defensive, rim-protecting Center -- i.e. Nerlens Noel if possible.

I underestimated his market. I didn't think he would sign for that at all.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

Right on all points, IMO. Including about Rui, alas -- though he gets another season to put it together, show he's something special.

Re: Potential Free Agent Signings
Signing Robin Lopez is... pathetic.
Ok, I give up. Tommy Sheppard is really going through the layers of good will I felt for him. In a big hurry.
Deni Avdija better be extremely good. Cassius Winston better play like what you'd hope for from a high R2 pick.
