but as long as its no longer than a two year deal, i don't care.

if we want a veteran centre, i'd rather a high character guy who could be good locker room influences

We may as well resign Biyombo cheap then

i would certainly prefer Biz over Whiteside. Someone a little smarter offensively might be nice though.

Whiteside is capable of some dominant performances. Averages 3.5 blocks, 4.6 offensive boards per 36 last season. I get he has some flaws, but I've watched him score at will against teams.

Picking up assets is always good. Maybe we trade him to some desperate team around the deadline.

An example of a dominant performance by him last season against the Lakers https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/202001310LAL.html

13/14 for 30 points, 5 blocks, 13 rebounds in 34 minutes

Baynes is also great at getting under the skin of star centres. Embiid HATED him. Would so much rather him.

Whiteside has always been able to put up box score stats but dude has always been detrimental to teams winning. I'd rather just keep the cap space open or sign a vet like Baynes who can stretch the floor for our young guys.

Dwight Howard once got a 30/30 for Charlotte. it really turned the season around.

Whiteside wouldn't be my first choice either. I'm just saying he isn't a stiff. It seems like the team is trying to get something together. Got to wonder if a Westbrook trade could be next.

like.... i honestly don't have a problem with whiteside on a two year deal. we're bottom 5 in rebounding iirc

but i'm blown when people hate x and y when one player does it, but love x and y when another guy does it. whiteside is just as selfish, if not more, than dwight while having all of the same defensive problems and being kind of a jackass everywhere he goes. keep the same energy is all im sayin lol

I don't see how we'd keep Zeller if we are signing a center. That's what makes me think we might be looking at a big target like Westbrook.

I think we're prepared to call this shortened season a wash while playing the young guys and getting another top 7 pick and starting next season full of money to spend to blend in quality veteran talent with the talented young guys we will already have.

The thing with Whiteside is he isn't great for the locker room.

When we were going after Dwight, I was on team Whiteside, but now that is he older and not that great, I'd rather sign someone more locker room oriented, specifically around Ball and Monk. The rest of the guys, I'm not worried about. But Ball with his celebrity stuff and Monk with his general dumbness, I'd rather have a more stable veteran around them.

And I really, really hope we don't blow up the rebuild for Westbrook. He is a stat machine, but he isn't a winning player and is older and is expensive.

I don't think we have to worry. Hawks secured that 8 spot with Gallinari and still have 23 M to spend. We offered Harrell because we want to develop an uptempo squad. That's harder to do when you have Zeller and Carey Jr. delaying it for a year. We can still play uptempo but we lose one year of incorporating a young center into that style. I hope we can get Myles Turner. Not sure if I've mentioned but he'd be great here and Kupchak was rumored to be chasing him.

Seems to me that we are trying to add some rim protection because our frontcourt defense is going to be atrocious. Get a guy like Whiteside back there to swat shots will keep Lamelo from losing confidence in improving. People say he sucks and that could be a good thing. The intention shouldn't necessarily be to win games, but to help develop Lamelo. I still want a high lotto pick next year.
