Re: Free Agency
The deal is for Delon Wright and Justin Jackson.
Its a salary dump for those two. Johnson is an expiring contract. Also, the guy looks like he can kill someone with his hands. Good job Donnie.
- max contract spot in 2021 secured
- wright and jackson moved
- roster level down to 15
- infused young talent to the team
- addressed defensive issues

He trains or trained before but not ufc caliber lol.
Might be a good enforcer.

Re: Free Agency
We got Trevor Ariza too.
Looks like Donnie is going the enforcer/defender route. Ariza is the guy who decked Trae Young for trying to pass the ball between his legs.
We need that kind of pettiness going against the Marcus Morris types. Kinda like how Deshawn Stevenson would troll opponents for every shot he makes.

Anyways, the team needs a big man really bad. A specific kind of big man at that. Only of few FA's fit the description, maybe even only 2. I rather they close it quickly than wait it out. Else you get another Delon situation who is a good player but a bad fit.
I’d rather be stuck with a Deleon situation than a Wes Matthews or Chandler Parsons situation. It’s much easier to deal with Deleon’s contract than it was Wes’ or Parsons’.

Isn't that the same situation? They couldn't get anybody and settled on those players
Right but if you settle you are paying A LOT less for the same quality player. This is not a good FA market to be handing out $60M-$80M contracts.

Seems like that has been the plan all along.

Re: Free Agency
Not a super exciting off-season so far but I'm liking how it is playing out.
We have a very competitive and balanced roster and have set ourselves up well for next off-season to make a run at Ginannis.
I say just re-sign WCS on a one-year deal and start the season with that.
We also have some nice trade pieces if an opportunity comes up before the TDL.

Re: Free Agency
Dallas has cleaned house and has players who can contribute - or at least get ready to.
So they stay focused, gaining even more cap space and adding some toughness in the middle. You really can't argue with this.

Will people forget about the Giannis thing already. It is not happening. The dude doesnt even practice with superstars and now all of a sudden he is going to join someone else to form a super team. Give me a break.
We are going next year to pick up some other Free Agents
Our realistic team now is:
C - Marjanovič
PF/C - Powell, Maxi, Porzingis
SF/PF - James Johnson
SF - DFS, Josh Green, Tyler Bay
SG/SF - Tim H. Jr, Josh Richardson
PG/SG/SF - Luka Dončič
PG/SG - Brunson, Tyrell Terry
PG - Trey Burke
The two guys in green I wouldn't bet they will see much playing time. Depends on Rick. So that is 12 + 2 guys. I expect one more veteran to join us on a 1-year deal and considering the slot.
I am not counting DFS as someone who can effectively cover a PF, more like a desperate move
Also, our first line up for the start of the season should look something like:
Luka
Tim Hr. Jr
DFS
Porzingis
Powell
(Although I think Powell will / should be replaced soon and I think he will be a problem. He rellies just on athleticism and he is coming off an Achilles = problem)

We, as fans, can forget about it. Problem is, the team owner (aka he who calls the shots and signs checks) has a fixation for it. So we cant do much about it from a message board.

Re: Free Agency
I lowkey like what Mavs have done so far. Traded Wright and JJ, who were useless, for someone who can be Doncic's bodyguard and can also stretch the floor and play defense. That was a good move. I'm more confident about the season now.

Re: Free Agency
But who is going to play Center? Remember Powell is not yet 100% and KP is out plus load management. We only have Maxi and Boban.
Maybe it's better not to be the best. Then you can lose and it's OK. - Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993)

KP will still start at C. That will be his position moving forward. KP, Dorian and James Johnson will be the power forward rotation. Richardson and Hardaway will play heavy minutes at SG and SF.

Re: Free Agency
By the way, the Mavs still have most of their MLE as I understand it. This doesn't mean we're done. We still have a roster spot to fill.

If DFS played PF before against smaller lineups i guess Johnson can play center as well. He is a strong dude after all.

Re: Free Agency
Some stat sheets suggest Johnson does occasionally play center.
But as I said, the Mavs may still acquire one.

Maybe they're just waiting for the outrageous prices to come down before they go sign one. I believe Denver has only $6M left to spend. We have $9M. If Milsap wants 3M more, he knows where to go.
Paul Milsap
Jae Crowder
Bismack Biyombo
Nerlens Noel
Tristan Thompson
Ersan Ilyasova
Patrick Patterson
Taj Gibson
Joakim Noah
Moe Harkless
Boogie Cousins
One of those guys is bound to sign for the MLE or below the MLE when the market dries up. Not everybody is like Detroit handing out $60M contracts. So the market for these guys, they'll have to settle for a realistic figure or a one year prove yourself type of deal. if KP plays 35 to 40 mins, you're just looking at 10 mins of bench time. One of these guys on the cheap should do.

James Johnson is the same size as Udonis Haslem. I think he can play spot minutes at C.

Re: Free Agency
We can officially pass on Nerlens Noel. I can feel Carlisle eye-rolling from here.
Most of the others have various skills that we could use. Millsap and Crowder may be asking too much. Taj Gibson is done. Ilyasova is interesting in that he really spreads the floor. Cousins may just be a Boban duplicate given his wheels.
Did WCS sign somewhere while I slept?
