Its almost like there's multiple people with different opinions on the board.

Also, people could question the pick but also be mad about trading him away for nothing. It would have been on to trade the pick for 2 more picks or something but to trade him away for a useless 2023 2nd rounder seemed questionable at best.

2023 is the year the NBA can draft high school kids again. I think that is why 2023 was the target pick. 2nd rounders will be more valuable.

Plus it’s Detroit’s pick and not Clippers. That’s quite valuable. FO/Rose didn’t let Oturu go easily.

My assumption is that they need open roster spots for upcoming moves. Plus, Thibs was never going to play all those rooks yet, at the same time, I understand anyone wanting to draft and stick any who can't make the team into the g-league.

Did the Knicks actually trade this pick? It has Oturu listed on the Knicks depth chart on ESPN

i think i know the answer you're looking for, thibs and the knicks front office didn't think of anyone in the 2nd round, in one of the weakest drafts ever, was worth drafting.

Yeah, I have a hard time giving criticism for things I have absolutely done myself in BAF

Edit: granted we have a hard cap...

I was about to say.....

But yea, in a weak draft, we'll get more value punting the pick to a later year. We don't need more kids.

I couldn't identify a Mitch type player this year. Somebody who fell due to red flags or was otherwise overlooked such as an international prospect. Admittedly, I didn't look very hard. I felt better about "pro" prospects in our league this year (THT, Eubanks, Melton) and focused on them.

Yea - and I overdrafted Deni & Cassius Winston (but somehow underdrafted Jalen Smith). Weird draft.

Like I said Oturu was one of my hidden gems in this draft that I mentioned before the draft. Was also even more surprised they traded Balmaro (another gem guy i mentioned).

That draft is most likey to be the double draft where highschool kids are allowed to enter the nba.

The Knicks did a math equation. They value the 2023 draft a certain way assuming the high school stuff.

That answer to the equation told them that even a #40 pick in 2023 is more valuable than what they saw in 2020 at #33.

You can agree or not with the conclusion, but that's my guess as to what happened here.

I see the logic, but its flawed. You dont trade a high 2nd round pick which is basically a first rounder for a future mid/late 2nd rounder.

in 3 years we could have developed a good player...Instead we are waiting 6-7 years for one to develop? Idk..No truth that HS players have more upside. So many HS busts in history. Something just doesnt sit right with me paying an 18 year old kid millions of dollars soly on how he played basketball against highschool kids.

Ya’ll btch about literally everything who cares. .001% chance he or whoever we picked at 33 amounted to anything for us. We have enough projects, enough youth, enough crappy players of our OWN to develop.

People get mad at how Knicks fans have a losing mentality, but I think the real losers are the ones who show up every offseason to support every move the FO makes, without an ability to think critically.

They’re the same guys who demand hustle and playing the right way, but won’t demand the same hustle from the front office.
