I really like Wright and think Pistons fans will be very surprised by how decent he is.

But I really like the trade as long as it’s just a couple 2nds going out..we needed to balance the roster and the roster spot so I’m thinking we haven’t seen the last of Barea!

Yeah I don't get that. If Detroit was willing to do Wright for Ariza straight up then wouldn't that have been better for Dallas and they save their 2nds for a different deal?

You expect multiple deals out of Dallas? Donnie is tired.

I do think Johnson is a better target for Dallas though. Ariza has some fight in him..but not like JJ.

And what I am really hoping for is we targeted JJ because of his contract. Does Gordon or Bog agree to a sign and trade to Dallas starting at 21 million? And since it seems Presti is working with everyone - we really could wait to make this trade official so we can combine salaries in a Gordon sign and trade where Boston gets Johnson, Boban, Brunson and Dallas gets Gordon and then we are able to pay him 25~ range.

Obviously it’s more likely nothing happens. But we can hope.

(I’d still rather trade THJ and one of Brunson/Bey for Gordon and have Johnson though.)

Ah. Your post I I originally quoted read as if you were saying Gallo was only getting paid 16.5m this year from the Hawks, which is what I responded to.

I took it for granted people knew the losses would be determined at the end of the season and the 20% and 16.5 was only a estimation.

But Atlanta is still paying that money out this year. And the whole dollar amount goes against the cap and tax, regardless of the escrow. They might get money back next year, or it might be in the 3 year escrow and figured out at a later time. Or, BRI isn’t as bad as we think (it wasn’t this past year), and some of that money goes back to the players too.

But the cap/tax hit is the same and based on his full contract and the 109 cap number.

And as for SF/PF, that’s true. But what if Reddish or Huerter, or a Bogdan play some SF, too? Otherwise, Reddish and Huerter are only splitting 48 minutes a night. And if you sign a Rondo or backup PG, there’s only 48 minutes a night at PG for he and Trae, so if you play them up a position (any of the guards) to get them more minutes, you’re cutting that 96 at SF/PF a bunch too.

I think you are worried about a whole lot of nothing. Schlenk said going into this draft and free agency he would be getting players that can compete. In a nutshell, if one of the rookies gets beat out of his starting position, best player takes the court.

Maybe you did not notice this but the three players most rumored with the Hawks, Gallinari, Hayward, Brogdan have all been very good starters in the league. I said a month ago, the Hawks are set at PG Trae, PF Collins, Center Capela. Everything else is up in the air.

Rondo played 20.5 minutes a game in LA. Teague played 20.8 minutes a game ( 25 games ) once he was traded to Atlanta. That is like a perfect swap.

Oh, I’m not worried. I’m not reading Schlenk, so I’m really just going off of what you’ve posted about the Hawks this offseason and your concerns. You’ve previously pointed out how you think the Hawks didn’t want to put barriers up to the young guys, so if you’ve changed your opinion, then it’s changed. I wouldn’t otherwise have reason to change my understanding, which is mostly based off conversations with, well, you, here.

That was all about one year rentals who were being seen as possible Hawks trade targets on this board. They were Oladipo, Hayward, and Jrue primarily. I did say Hayward and Jrue would be a great long term signings many times.

One year rentals were fine when the Hawks were trying to acquire assets/picks/cap. This season is about trying to establish a winning mentality.

I agree with everything you say. Gallinari took up 20.5 million of their cap space last night. The Hawks have between 25 and 26 million left. Furthermore, if the Hawks want to trade him, the 20.5 million must be accounted for. I mentioned that in a post about Gallinari's possible trade value.

I'd definitely rather it was Johnson than THJ. I think Johnson can be a fringe rotation guy and his attitude is something Dallas is lacking, but I think Tim's shooting is still more useful even with Hayward coming back.

Just a brutal F.A. for the Clippers so far IMO.

To me getting Johnson is about someone that is strong and tough enough to match up with the elite forwards in the West. He’s not some lockdown guy, but he’ll be better at that than Ariza at this stage.

Also, who is playing 2 guard for the Lakers? Green and KCP were at least serviceable.

Well getting him is mostly about not having Delon. :D

And yeah he's a decent option to soak up some minutes against those big forwards in the West. But he's JAG. THJ is a more useful player imo so if we are using one as filler I'd make it Johnson if I could--obviously I'd do either in jay's scenario.

Looks like they signed Mathews, which to me, seems what I'll charitably describe as optimistic at this stage of his career.

Wes Matthews.

Also, could we see Clippers circle around KCP or Rondo and work out a double S&T and allow each team to preserve their MLE?

Yup. Sounds like he’ll get the token start and probably play around 25 minutes a night, but probably not finish games for them?

Wes will still fight defensively, will hit enough shots to keep teams honest. His limitation at this point is mostly about the number of minutes he can handle. But for the price they paid he's still a good get.

Plus they had their knights and wizards and needed an archer.

I would be happy either way and don’t expect either..

Just feel like we can find a bench shooter easier than a banging four. And with Richardson, THJ is just a bench shooter right?

But I do get really happy thinking of adding Millsap MLE, Hayward, and Josh Richardson to last years team..

He's one of those vets whose effectiveness is pretty dependent on which officiating crew is out there and who he's being asked to guard. Dude grabs and arm bars all the time.

Matthews replaces Danny Green

Lakers can start KCP up to $12MM and still have enough room under the apron to fill out the roster with 4 vet min guys.

Not sure the updated cap space numbers, but outside of New York and Atlanta, who can offer KCP a deal starting above the mid level.

My gut feeling is KCP signs the same deal with the Lakers (2 years/$19MM Full MLE with the 2nd year a player option) as Harrell did.

They are still trying to get Brogdan in a SNT. If that happens, I will call the Lakers a 3 peat type team.
