Hoping there is a master plan here that I'm not seeing.

Maybe they did it on purpose to pretend they can't spend past the tax threshold due to NBA rules? As much as I have defended their decision to not go $20m into tax threshold to keep Brogdon, I was very pissed they didn't pay the tax at all and as far as I know I was the only one who ever suggested the tax-avoidance conspiracy theory that all their payroll gymnastics last year was a front for avoiding the tax by taking an intricate series of steps to put themselves in a position where they weren't even allowed to pay the tax and then plead helplessness. DM me for details on the process.

if that's true, they deserve to lose giannis :banghead:

It's very plausible. The had Pat C's early bird rights, correct? So I think they could have used the full MLE and BAE and then gone into the tax to re-sign Pat C as long as his raise wasn't absurd (you can argue that it was but let's just say $4m is rarely "absurd" for someone who earned minutes on a 60-win team). But by using part of the MLE on Pat, I think they squander those early bird privileges. They can't just transfer them to someone else.

I unplugged from Bucks news for the past few days so I could watch the draft completely without spoilers. I now realize I should of stayed unplugged. Lordy, lordy what's going on?

they were dumbasses to not bring in reinforcements, and leave the fate of the franchise in the hands of this buffoon

I see someone added a follow-up tweet from Madden about how giving Pat a player option is exactly what I thought - a sneaky way to duck the tax. Screw this. I get not going $20m into the tax for Brogdon, and it's not even that simple because they actually couldn't quite fit the right to match under the cap in that case. But not even using Pat C's Bird rights to pay a small tax bill while staying under the apron and preserve most of the MLE? GTFO.

The Bucks would be infinitely better off just undoing everything they've done and giving one of about 50 different posters here the reins. Even people who refused to give up on Jabari until he quit on them in the playoffs would do better than this.

I mean it's actually kind of genius if you accept the premise that the whole goal is to avoid the luxury tax while making ridiculously complicated sequences of moves to plausibly deny that they're doing it all for that reason.

They're going to fill the roster with chaf, duck the tax, and shrug, aren't they?

Almost positive Market went crazy, Bog deal fell through, Bucks panicked and offered Pat without thinking. Now they are just scrambling to fill out the rest of roster.

Honestly, that may be it. I’m a fan of Jrue but everything else in the past couple of days has been pure incompetence for the entire league to see. I think we may be worse off right now than last year
