they don't really need to sell anybody on anything, they're the Knicks + arenas will be empty/limited capacity
if they continue to avoid major signings its because of 2 things 1) weak FA class 2) strong 2021 draft
but if you need to be sold, how about this: right now, we're looking like a bottom 5 team, which would put us in position to land a very good pick. Obviously, getting #1 and Cade would be great, but the class is deep and there's BJ Boston, Jalen Green, and Ziaire Williams, etc. After getting 1, our young core would be very, very strong.
I think we're 1 draft away from the Knicks turning things around
Knicks are always 1 draft away from being....... 1 draft away.
this time it's probably for real. RJ and Mitch look like core pieces, and Obi was 1 of the safer picks in the draft. add in a top 10 pick in a loaded 2021 (as well as 3 other picks that'll be in the top 40) and I like our chances
Top 10 picks mean nothing. Knox, Frank and even DSJ are all top 10 picks. How are they looking? Everyone says the draft is loaded, but perceptions about draft classes can change real quick. The 2014 draft was supposed to be loaded with Wiggins, Parker and Embiid and now only one of those players is an allstar level player
Even if we get a top 3 pick there is no guarantee that the pick is an allstar. At least one pick in the top 3 is a bust every year. Sh*t even if we get the first pick and draft Cade there is no guarantee we win anything. In the past 10 years the only number one pick to win a championship has been Anthony Davis and Kyrie. If you expand the list to the past 20 years the list increases to Lebron, Dwight, AD, Bogut, Kyrie.
Only Lebron has won as the best player on a championship team, playing on the team that drafted him 1st in the past 20 YEARS. And he had to leave win in Miami and come back for that to happened.
Stop tanking. Try to be competitive.

of course he is a bust, doesn't mean in his 2nd year harkless should have been playing over him.
both can be correct.
so who cares then ? and he still was in the rotation the whole year anyway. he needed 35 minutes or something ?
because he was bad his rookie year but still had value
he was bad and got zero playing time which completely tanked his value. Even if you don't like someone you have to pretend to like them and at least get something of value for him.

All teams that have shown signs of life. Teams that don’t tank year after year and hire the wrong coaches and GMs and they actually develop talent. Maybe at some point we’ll stop tanking and actually show signs of life so players have more than just financial reasons to join us. I know we are conditioned to think “THIRTEENTH PICK BAD TANKING GOOD” but how has that worked out for anyone since, I dunno, the Cavs in 03?
We haven’t been tanking we’ve just been inept.
Also you need talent to develop it we have very little talent to work with which is why you want to get those guys through the draft who are good enough to convince FA’s to eventually come here.
The tanking comment was aimed more towards fans that somehow are still under the impression that tanking is a viable solution in 2020. We agree though. You need to develop what you have so that you can show those signs of life and actually be an attractive destination. We’ve drafted talented players, we’ve just completely botched their development. Hopefully it stops this year with Thibs taking over and him actually having a track record of developing wing players like RJ (Butler) and big men like Mitch (KAT)

Atlanta seemed to be kind of tanking there for a bit
They did they went full blown tank for a few years and now they have a bright future.
I’m all for tanking as opposed to whatever we’ve been doing..

Yes, I know RJ is better at 3. And that Hayward can play SOME 4.
Knicks again fgging themselves by sliding every player down one position.
Hayward mostly played the 3 last year and was effective. Obi probably won't be finishing crunch time games his rookie year and may not start for all we know. Need to see how the roster shakes out. So at the end of game you can very well see something like RJ/Hayward/Mitch as the front line.

he doesn't fit because he doesn't shoot. And only tries and plays well in the playoffs at this point. He should be on a contender not us overpaying for him to not be on a contender.

? I’d stick RJ at SG. What would your plan be?
DSJ (or Frank)
Quickley
RJ
Obi
Mitch

I like the idea of developing RJ as a 2, there's nothing about him that should prevent him from being able to defend the 2, which is also why I like the idea of signing Hayward. You put enough wings on the floor and there will always be a mismatch somewhere on the court.

i'd happily pay him an elfrid payton deal. he is the best thing that could happen to this group of young guys' futures

My point is, Hayward would be redundant. They could play together as a 3-4 combo around a defensive 5, but the Knicks drafted Obi to play PF (he’s a center imo but that doesn’t change the perception of the FO).
We need guard play. FVV and Bogdanovic would fill both positions and bring some toughness and much-needed shooting.
I’m with you on Hayward but Fred van felton and 30 year old bogdanovich can kick rocks too
Bogdanovic is 28 and he is a volume 3 point shooter, that can handle the ball and took the starting job from Hield because he plays better defense and has better all around skills. I'm kind of curios to see if he can breakout as a scorer since he wont be competing for shots in a backcourt with Hield and Fox.

Not that hard. Find guys that can space the floor and can at least play decent defense. Open that lane up and watch them fly.
2 of the positions (themselves) are already compromising spacing.
Nah Obi can shoot the ball and RJ showed improvements as the season went on. In a set I would put RJ and Obi at either corner with Obi on the weak side. Then put our best shooter on the opposite wing and run pick and roll to death with Mitch. You can create variations off of that set for teams to have to pick their poison

the rest of the league aint stupid. they know what he is. alan hahn talked about how every team targeted him because he was so bad on defense. it was in the scouting report to get the switch on knox because he's food.

Not playing 30 minutes a game didn't tank his value... Him sucking every minute he played did
Not all his fault. A lot of blame goes to Mills/Perry/Fiz for not having a plan but Knox still sucked regardless

His defense wack but it didn’t help that we didn’t run plays for him. The kid is projected as a shooter and a pick and roll handler. Just stuck him in a corner in limited minutes don’t help him.

Looks like we are in the minority lol Rondo makes sense as back up point guard on a cheap contract. He really improved his 3 pt shot and is perfect for Obi and Mitch nobody makes better lob passes than Rondo and he is still great in P&R. It's a no brainer.

there are a lot of bad defenders. But knox has at least shown the ability to shoot. He is also tall. If they just utilized him as a stretch big someone might be fooled. Young guys get traded all the time because people think they can turn them around.
If you don't plan on playing him just trade him for scraps then. What are they waiting for?
