Re: Free Agency Thread **NOW OPEN**
Did Bogdan sign the Hawks offer sheet? Was that reported by Woj or just some guy?
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
Please advise….

Re: Free Agency Thread **NOW OPEN**
I know waiting can be frustrating.
But I do think Masai learned a lesson with the Demarre Carroll signing.
You don't pay good veteran role players like they're stars. There is no upside and it eats your cap. You're better off drafting and developing youth (draft or undrafted) or buying low on role players that you think have some upside (RHP, Stanley Johnson, etc). It's cheaper and there's greater upside.
I think the strategy has been largely successful. Siakim has become star level talent (maybe all-star), FVV has developed into more than anything you could have gotten on the market. Norm, Boucher, and others are all examples of this philosophy.
This is why I worry a little about an FVV commitment. His defense is elite and his 3 point shooting is great, but can he run a first string offense? In essence he is a high end 3+D undersized guard. I don't think he can break down a defense with his dribble penetration and I'm not sure about his court awareness on offense. After all isn't a 3+D player another term for role player? Is FVV that much of an upgrade over Seth Curry? I'm not sure. I think there's risk there.
Serge on the other hand I think there's value. At his position he does more than anyone available on the market. He can stretch the floor, rebound, block shots. He doesn't have the defensive IQ that Marc Gasol has, which is why he was often favored in the rotation but I don't think there are many C's with Marc's defensive IQ. So I prefer to spend there if given the choice.
If you're going to spend your money you spend it on stars or ideally all-stars, which is why you go all in on players like Kawhi or Giannis or others who trend elite if you can (which is still very rare, and even rarer for T.O. to obtain an all-star FA - it's never happened). So slow play and develop youth until an opportunity arises where you can acquire an elite player through draft or trade because you have acquired young affordable assets that teams desire.

Last year the Raptors lost Kawhi and Danny Green for nothing. They signed Matt Thomas, Rondae and Stanley Johnson. Stanley didn't play. Matt Thomas barely played. They were a couple of plays from making the ECFs. There's nothing to worry about.
They have to wait on Fred, because he's the best player available and they already know how to use him. And Fred has to wait on the Knicks, because he wants money.

Damn, our own free agents are holding us up while all of other potential FA targets get signed by different teams.

The Knicks insanity will dictate this. But I think he’d actually be a great signing for them if they got him in theory. This is a team that considered Westbrook and Chris Paul trades while rebuilding...

What's in it for the Knicks?
Why don't they just sign FVV outright.
If anything the Raptors/Pacers would have to give the Knicks a few assets for helping them get what they want.

Re: Free Agency Thread **NOW OPEN**
My guess would be FVV gets a decent deal from Raps. Serge will need to decide between a 1 year big $ deal with Raps or a likely 3 year MLE deal from someone else. Depending on how the front court plays out, I could see Raps using some or all of the MLE on Hollis-Jefferson. He took a little bit of time to fit in but once he bought in he was like the Raps Swiss Army knife. They could swap him in at the 3/4/5 spots when needed and he was usually reliable.

I also don't think any of the Raptors serious targets outside Fred and Ibaka are off the board yet.
I was hoping for a slew of moves, with hopefully some Raptors involvement, but all that has happened so far really take no skin off my back.
I still think retaining Fred, Ibaka, and bringing in a guy like Bismack/Noel would be a pretty decent FA. This offseason was always going to be important and needed to be calculated. Especially given our cap space for this year is limited anyways.

Why would they join this and give up assets as well?
pick comes from Indy matching the 27 mil. NY gets us not matching on Fred.

Until he punches Giannis' brother. Lots of facts pointing to Portis not good for locker room.

Who would you rather have FVV or Bogdan? Fred at 4/80 ad Bogdan at 4/60
