The Lakers are going to field a top 5-8 defense by hook or by crook on the strength of Davis+Vogel. Where this team had serious concerns was on the offensive end and they got a massive break by playing the worst collection of defenses that a champ has probably ever played in the postseason. If they ran into anyone that could defend at all, this entire offseason conversation could have had an entirely different complexion. We would be focusing a lot more on this not-top-10 offense that had KCP finish 3rd in playoff scoring behind the big two. Lebron and AD aren’t going to be always able to match that level of nonsensical, off the charts efficiency against stiffer defensive competition, they needed a more layered attack. These moves for Schroeder and Harrell will absolutely make this team better and more well rounded. They are clear favorites to win next season right now

The Schroder Harrell second unit is going to kill teams. This really helps LeBron coast through the regular season.

I don’t think Harrell plays crunch time but he will kill it in the 25 mpg he does play. Crunch time lineup is likely

Schroder
Caruso
KCP
Bron
AD

Kuzma in for one of the smalls if you need size, Matthews if you really need shooting though I’m less high on Matthews, he’ll be a sufficient Danny replacement but he was relatively washed.

He was exposed defensively in the Denver series and I’m gonna have to hold my nose to root for him after the Luka fiasco, but at this contract I can’t complain. The scoring punch he will bring off the bench, his energy and fire are all welcome additions. And the fact that this hurts the Clippers is a bonus...

They are having a great offseason. Hope they can land Gasol now for some beef.

They're just gonna switch it just like they did with Brons pnr with Love and AD. I think Schroder pnr with Bron could be money tho

Really curious what the KCP delay is. There's not a lot of movement under the hard cap for the Lakers, so contract negotiations can't take this long. And nothing announced on Bogdan yet either.

Nothing on Rondo, Kieff, and Bradley yet either. Rondo is likely going to the Clippers I think with the Hawks signing Kris Dunn and Augustin going to the Bucks. Ibaka is still up in the air as well - it would be really frustrating if he takes the MLE with Brooklyn or the Clippers.

Wonder if this is a Klutch negotiation method to get KCP paid?

I may just be talking myself into it at this point, but I think I've come around to your conclusion. I think that the Lakers' closing lineup will probably be about the same as last year, which is still probably the best closing lineup in the league. However, the lineups that they can deploy during other portions of the game will likely be stronger. In particular, I'm thinking about the Davis/LeBron stagger. Pairing Dennis with Davis and LeBron with Harrell will open up a lot of possibilities. I really hope they can lure Gasol back into the NBA, because even though he looked a bit washed last year, he can still defend well, and open up even more possibilities.

My guess he want's around 15m for 4 years, and LA can't do that unless they unload McGee

Has Lowe typically been accurate? He mentioned it would be a foregone conclusion. But he could've changed his mind as well.

Harrell has a wingspan over 7’4” and is athletic with a strong base. I have a lot of confidence in Vogel and his ability to coach guys up on the defensive end. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Harrell quietly surprises with some defensive improvement especially as the season goes on. Not saying he will be some ultra plus defender by any stretch but let’s see what happens when Vogel gets his hands on him
and plops him into this culture

Would've been a great addition obviously - what does this mean now for the Lakers? They have to keep KCP now no?

Ideally yes for less than 12m

If they lose KCP, they only have vet mins

If they sign KCP for 15m they are right at the apron

Just not having him guard big 5s should make a difference.

Rondo just said on IG he's officially leaving, no information yet on his next team. I just hope it's not the Flippers
