You can tell he was just looking for reasons to leave after they won without him. Was probably rooting secretly for the Heat in the finals.
It's human to not want your group better without you
What? Not in team sports man. I never want my team to lose if I'm not playing. Perhaps it's different when you're paid millions and you don't really have a bond with your teammates, but in general that's bs.
I think there is a psychological difference between getting injured, and thus forced to sit out, but perhaps even accompanying your team on the bench, and voluntarily choosing not to go into the bubble (admittedly for good reasons, but still one of the only NBA players that made the choice, and then being completely isolated from your team). I think those events could have made him more interested in considering a fresh start and thus opting out. After the Lakers signed Schroder, and given the enhanced role Caruso is likely to place this year, that probably also dissuaded him about his role on the Lakers.
As a Laker fan, it hurts to lose him, but keeping KCP is a higher priority, and it would have been tough to do both with the other signings the team has made.
