Can we take a moment to reflect on Nic Batum, who was just waived?

https://swarmandsting.com/2016/07/01/the-charlotte-hornets-re-sign-nicolas-batum-to-a-5-year-120-million-deal/

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports and The Vertical has reported that the Charlotte Hornets and Nicolas Batum have “reached agreement on a five-year, $120 million deal.” This deal went down just a few short hours after the NBA’s free agency period began on July 1st. The two sides wanted to get a deal done and the Hornets have Batum the big deal that he was searching for.

The 27-year old Frenchman averaged a career high 14.9 points per game, a career high 5.8 assists per game, and 6.1 rebounds per game this past season with Charlotte. He also shot 42.6% from the field, 34.8% from the three-point line, and 84.9% from the free throw line. He played in 70 games and averaged 35 minutes per game.

Can anyone see the irony in him getting waived to pave the way for Gordo, who is nowhere close to as promising of a trajectory as Batum was.

All the +1's in the world to the comment about the Knicks growing up and not making irrational decisions, because, at this moment, I see no way Charlotte isn't salary dumping Hayward in year 4 in order to give 35 million per to Saddiq Bey, who, after two up-and-down years, closes out the 2022-2023 season with a promising 20 game stretch?

Also, I will casually observe that the last player with awesome talent, horrendous injury luck, and a fixation with online video game playing (I believe WOW) was Andrei Kirilinko? Will anyone be at all surprised if Gordo disappears within 4 years just like AK?
You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

Already been announced they are waiving and using the stretch provision on Batum. Just nutty

Not announced, it’s there intent

If this is everything he can do then he should be gone, because this quite clearly isn't good enough.

So now the Celtics have as starters:
Smart (who should be a bench player)
Walker
Tatum
Brown
Theis

And a bunch of rookies and unproven players and one big man in Williams who is always injured. Hope people love seeing Semi as the first guy off the bench because he could be the teams best bench player as I type this.

His choice was Indy.

Ainge balked.

When he knew Indy was taking too long he chose his second option.

Indiana would've had to pay for that salary, so if anyone balked it was Pritchard.

So the story you guys are telling yourselves is that Ainge blew thins by being Greedy. Ok, let's just pretend this makes sense, didn't we like it when he was Greedy and got a pick to trade Fultz for Tatum? Isn't part of the job trying to get the best offer?

You're missing the point. Unless all the reports are dead wrong the celtics and indy had a deal in place before the hornets swept in with this deal. Danny being greedy is what led to this hornets situation. If the hornets deal was there from the beginning there would be no discussion.

Haven't really been paying attention. Ibaka's got to command more than the MLE, right?

I'd tell you what, Ibaka is solid, but nothing special, never has been, he's had 2 all-star-ish season long time ago when he was presumably like 22-23. He has great agent tho, as in my opinion he's been overpaid for ages, I dunno if the current market will allow him to get more than the full MLE, cause there aren't that many teams with CAP space sans the Knicks.

Solid is just fine right now. We're in damage control now, but it's got to be smart damage control, not over-reactive.

Get the TPE and move on. Payoff probably won't come until the trade deadline or next offseason.

How much would it cost Celtics to get a TPE out of this?

Gotta believe they will let us do a s&t for Hayward. I want a tpe.

At this point just bring in a couple of vets to round out the bench and maybe show Tatum and Brown that they're trying. Otherwise just tank for a year. Embrace the treadmill or tank are the two options

Not much, but I believe that it would hard cap the Hornets. Probably the biggest challenge right there.
