As an unrestricted free agent, Gordon could sign wherever he felt he was getting the best deal. He probably didn't need his agent to tell him he would be crazy not to take the Charlotte deal. If Indiana was offering a good deal (for Gordon, not the Celtics), he would be there now, don't you think? In the end, money usually wins out. What kind of money did he leave on the table with the Pacers?

I never questioned his decision to take the money though. It's career suicide in terms of winning anything in the next 4 years, but easy choice financially speaking.

My thing about Millsap is that we may be max cap room players next summer now (if we dump Kemba by then). No multiyear deals.

It would likely be the MLE wIth 2nd year not guaranteed. A lot of them given out this offseason have been essentially 1 yr deals

Sure, if all our opponents get the most favorable outcomes, and none of our youths take a step, then obviously we lose ground. But it rarely works like that in reality. Not every rival team will maximize their potential, while we completely fail to do so. These things fall on bell curves. Some teams will improve and some will regress.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us beat or lose to any of these team this season.

When did I ever say some of our players won't improve? You cannot deny there is a gulf between the top teams in the conference, and the Celtics. I mean, is that even debatable?

Again it’s not about the deal. The fact that it got to a point where another max player wanted out and you got nothing for it is what’s frustrating. Ainge misplayed his hand. This team is now worse off and have very little options to improve. It’s amazing people are okay with this....

Next year Tatum is 30m a year. You can't have four players making 30m a year for more than maybe a year tops before the real tax gets real. We could never trade Hayward for another long term max deal. We aren't golden state.

It's a tax decision. We were in the tax this year if we kept hayward and it was only going to get worse going forward.

Wyc and danny wanted to reset the tax and thought they could finesse the pacers in the process.

Ainge job just got infinity more challenging. Not easier.

Could Ainge have gotten the trade with Indiana and Hayward to work without a sign and trade? Had it been an outright trade with Indiana earlier in the week, the FA deadline would have been moot, as MJ wouldn't have been able to throw an offer, unless he tampered.
