Build a title contender - not as easy as it seems

Post#1 » by Ryoga Hibiki » Sat Nov 21, 2020 8:42 pm

Here are the rules:
- you can chose any player at his 2021 salary
- no players on rookie scale
- no players making more than 24.99m
- fill up a 12 man roster
- total payroll below the LT threshold

I have a few ideas, but I don't think the team I have in mind is good enough

Why no rookie scale? Every team has rookie scale players lol

Better yet why no max players? You can't build a championship team without a max player or a rookie deal player who will sign a max eventually.

PG - Malcolm Brogdon / Dinwiddie
SG - Marcus Smart / Zach Lavine
SF - Bojan Bogdonavic / Josh Richardson
PF - Draymond Green / Jerami Grant
C - Myles Turner / Brook Lopez

Idk. I don't trust teams without superstars

Well, Barkley was a superstar in the 90s and lot of people considered Green better than him for some years...so problem solved.
When this account gets more "And1"s than posts written ...then my life will be complete. And maybe it will be the right time to hang it up. (Achieved on 2017-2018 season)...but still here.

I don't know man. Looks like you just need to sign Lebron. Just one thing and everything else falls in place

Because that’s the rules he set out to make it tough?

Marcus Smart-Alex Caruso
Victor Oladipo-Josh Hart-PJ Dozier
Robert Covington-Joe Ingles-Mario Hezonja
Domantis Sabonis-Davis Bertans
Daniel Theis-Dwight Howard

Oladipo--------------$21 million
Sabonis--------------$20 million
Bertans---------------$14 million
Smart-----------------$13 million
Covington------------$12 million
Ingles-----------------$11 million
Theis-----------------$5 million
Hart------------------$3.5 million
Caruso----------------$2.7 million
Hezonja--------------$2 million
Dozier-----------------$1.7 million
Howard---------------$1.6 million

$109 million

You've got 3 and D, playmakers, shooters, and bigs that can run the PnR.

I don't think its possible with those restrictions. Basically you're just getting great depth at the expense of top-end talent. The problem is top-end talent is almost always what wins titles. When only 5 guys can be on the court together, no amount of sub-$25m players are gonna replace the value of having LeBron and AD as 2 of them. Same goes for the other top teams with multiple superstars. i.e. 4 quarters will never equal a dollar when it comes to the NBA playoffs

Just looking at the lineups people have posted - those teams are getting steamrolled by the current elite teams. Best they could do is hope for some injury luck.

That team would struggle to make the playoffs.

You need a top 10 player. Most times you need atleast a couple of them.

Top 10 players are paid more than than 24M

PG - Goran Dragic / Lou Williams / Trey Burke
SG - Malcolm Brogdon / Seth Curry / Wesley Matthews
SF - Dorian Finney-Smith / Danny Green
PF - Robert Covington / Paul Millsap
C - Myles Turner / Christian Wood

I don't think a contender is possible with these restrictions unless they become a lockdown defensive team somehow.
