[Official] J. Johnson to DAL, Wright to DET, Ariza/Jackson/pick to OKC

Post#1 » by loserX » Sat Nov 21, 2020 9:07 pm

Didn't see another thread for this one; please link me if there is one and I can merge:

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30356782/trevor-ariza-oklahoma-city-thunder-3-team-trade-detroit-pistons-dallas-mavericks

Detroit trades Ariza/pick for Delon Wright
Mavs trade Wright/Justin Jackson for James Johnson
OKC trade Johnson for Ariza/Jackson/pick

Can't seem to find any information on what exactly this pick is (what round or year) so if anyone knows, please post that here too!

Can someone please wake me up from this nightmare? I don't deserve this, Detroit fans deserve better.

Detroit fans are really going to like Wright and won’t hate this trade if it’s just one second.

Wright is decent at everything and only 28 years old. Doesn’t really have to improve at anything, just needs to have the confidence to shoot when it’s his time.

But obviously I have no idea what Detroit is doing with Blake, Rose, 11 centers, and two good young players.

So we know Detroit is giving the pick not Dallas? I hadn't heard that. Clear win for Dallas. I'm glad jay still defends Delon who seems like a good dude. But I didn't like him before he was a Mavs and I didn't see anything that changed my mind. Someone needs to get that cat some confidence. If he had some confidence there is a good player there.

That seems to be the case, but again I can't find any details on the pick itself at all (I keep seeing "undisclosed" but that's not how NBA trades work). So I'll assume that's correct but will update whenever the facts are known.

I;m not really sure Detroit has any second rounders to give. I'd guess it would be the SRP they got out of Houston for the Wood S&T if Detroit is sending anything. Detroit traded four SRP's to LAC in the Kennard trade including '24, '25, '26 and if Detroit is sending them that far out I think it means they didn't have any others.

Detroit is also taking on extra year for an expiring Ariza here.

Hasn't Ariza only $ 1,8 mln guaranteed for this season?

Love this for the Mavs. JJ is the enforcer they've been lacking, can help defend the bigger wings, and vet leader. We also free up more cap space for 21. Really liking this off-season for Dallas thus far. J Rich and JJ we're both guys I wanted to target.

No, the full 12.6 needed to be guaranteed for some reason or other when he was traded from Portland with Covington.

I don't understand what Detroit is doing with their signings and trades. Maybe it will make some sense when the play starts.

CBA rules dictate that the player has to have a fully guaranteed year to count for salary match. If he was being traded for a guy with a $1.8 million salary that might be doable without the guarantee. The rule changed with the New CBA.

So we attached a pick to an expiring to get two years of an okay player.

What exactly did Weaver do in OKC?

Obviously not involved with trades or free agent signings.

Nope. Kind of remarkably opaque at the moment. A Thunder writer was saying 2 2nds, but I haven’t seen any good sourcing on that claim, where they would be coming from, or what exactly they would be.

Still feels to me like Dallas should be contributing the 2nd(s) not that I'm complaining if it's Detroit.
