Great comment I saw over at indycornrows.com. Highlighted main points I agree with. 8-)

Hayward wants Indy

He has opted out which means he thinks he is going to get what he wants. He turned down a guaranteed 34M. Bos has 2 choices. Pay Hayward what he wants on a long term contract or let him go.

If Hawks or Knicks make good offers Bos gets nothing. Only way Hayward gets what he wants (to go to Indy) and Bos gets something in return is if Indy gives Hayward enough so that he is happy to turn down offers from Hawks and Knicks.

Bos can take what Indy offers or offer Hayward what he wants from them.

Bos has little leverage in this
. Hayward is using hawks and knicks to push Indy for more and Indy can offer Bos Dipo straight up and if Hayward is happy and Indy is happy then all Bos can do is turn it down and lose Hayward for nothing or pay him what he wants for a long term contract.

Indy doesn’t have to offer Turner and I would not if I were them. Give the Dipo and give Hayward his $100M and call it a day. Why give up Turner when you would rather give up Dipo.

Just for context: Boston can sign Gordo for $25mil year-one and still dodge the tax right now, without making a single other move, and filling the roster out to 15 with only players already in the org. The rumor we've heard is that we know he really wants to go to IND, but we've made a standing $4/100 offer for him to fall back on.

So, that's the range we're probably talking about for the money to be comparable. Probably he'd accept less to play in IND? Who knows how much less.

Go right ahead and re-sign him if he will sign.

Still think it's most likely something gets worked out between us that everyone can stomach. Just giving some context on the dollar value.

We don't see anything in the tea leaves that suggests NYK will outbid us or that Gordo is itching to go there. We think it's either we work out a S&T with you, or just take him back on that 4/100.

Lamb + Doug + Leaf is a combined $22m

That should be enough to match the first year of Hayward's salary

Alternatively, Warren + Lamb + Leaf is $26m, that should do it too

It's so fresh to read a free agent mention IND as a "preferred destination."

In some way, you feel appreciated as a fan. :D

I'm okay if we fill the 14th spot with Stanley and pay a little tax. Plus, we can reevaluate as the deadline approaches.

Simon probably wouldn’t be happy with that.

Worst case, looks like a TJ Leaf stretch waive would get us just enough room to sign Cassius for $900k and one other minimum to get to 14, and leave the 15 open.

If we could get top notch talent for that little cost, it’d be awesome. It alas, Oladipo has no value right now. Even if he returns healthy, he’s also added “locker room weirdo” and “wishy washy” labels to himself and neutralize some of that value.

You’ll have to add in Holiday, Goga, and about 3 1sts, if Washington is even willing to deal Beal at all, which they likely aren’t.

Can't we avoid the tax by lowering payroll later in the season?

Sure. But price goes up later when teams know you HAVE to trade and pay to do so. Can’t stretch a guy midseason. The window to stretchwaive someone closes before camp opens.

I'm not in the stretch Leaf camp but it wouldn't surprise.

I get that. I included it because other teams with TPE’s or cap space would also know you would have to pay to trade him or live with the luxury tax.

And with GS projecting to pay over $100m themselves in luxury tax (before BRI adjustments) that’s a $3m payment we’d miss out on just by being over the tax.

You think Washington will take that? Sorry they're gonna want that and 3 #1's did you see what the Pelicans got for Jrue?

Trade him to NYK or OKC with cash to buy him out and a 2nd or two.
