I brought up Turner earlier! He still has a home here and I think he is buds with Lillard. I wouldn't be surprised to see them add him as another ball handler.

Re: 2020 free agent targets and draft picks
I really like this offseason.
The team is full of likeable guys, and I think chemistry will be at an all time high. RoCo and DJJ will really fit this team's chemistry, and bringing back Kanter, Melo and Hood will keep this a tight knit group.
I think it's a talented roster as well. Either way, it'll be entertaining and a team I'll happily be rooting for, which for a small market team, are very important facets.
I absolutely love the RoCo trade. DJJ was a bit of an overpay, but I like the fit. All of the other moves are solid. Hood may be a slight overpay too, but it's just about market value (and second year is a team option, so I'm not too fussed.

Re: 2020 free agent targets and draft picks
Well, I guess I’m one of the few who don’t really think Olshey is G-D right now.
RoCo, I’ll give that one an “A”. Kanter a “B”. Everything else? Maybe a “C”.
Other than perhaps lockeroom presence, I just don’t see how Hood, DJ, and Melo are going to really make the Blazers more dynamic next year.
I guess if Hood comes back at 3/4 of what he was but continues his good 3pt%, Derrick Jones comes in and can lock down SG/SFs and we get more good Melo than 1-12 Melo, that’s a best case scenario.
The more I think about it, Kanter could likely be the best move of the offseason, because it allows the Blazers to not have to switch what the do when Nurkic leaves the floor...and of course Nurkic hasn’t proven that he can stay healthy.
Avery Bradley, Justin Holiday are just two names that IMO would have made the team significantly better.

Good thing for MJ he's loaded. Might as well be a bit more generous with his money.
He didn't pay to keep Kemba so I guess he wants to try to make the team more competitive.
I don't know how well the Hornets draw. Seems like they really need a face of the franchise type and Hayward is too old for that.
So LaMelo?

Re: 2020 free agent targets and draft picks
ET at Vet Min is different that Turner at $18M. Good secondary ball handler - pt forward - did a great defensive job on Millsap in the Playoff - Magician in the paint and could post up on anyone. Can't shoot the 3 ball - but we are completely rebuilt from that team - and a good locker room guy. Could do a lot worse. Another 6' guard?

The assumption here always is that those two viewed Portland as an option.
How many times over the years have we been upset, only to find out that a player didn't want to come to Portland? Bradley went to Miami, in a state that seems to be more appealing to athletes location wise and has no state tax. There is also the added plus that they were in the finals last year.
Justin Holiday stayed with his current team, which to me indicates he was happy there.
Just because we view players as an option, doesn't mean they are/were one.
EDIT: Typed Justin Turner, meant Justin Holiday.

Where does Whiteside land for only OKC and Atlanta have any cap space?

Honestly not totally opposed to Austin Rivers on the cheap to fill the backup PG spot. Broke man's Patrick Beverley.

I'm pretty good with this off-season as well. I don't love any of the moves in isolation but I think the overall vision is there in a way where our role players can be more than the sum of their parts, similar to 18-19.
We do still need a backup PG who knows it's his job to get other players quality shots but Olshey seems not to believe in that archetype of player...

Re: 2020 free agent targets and draft picks
Austin Rivers and Skal Labisserrie would top things off and I'd be happy.
Lillard / Rivers / Simons
McCollum / Hood / Trent Jr
Covington / Jones / Little
Melo / Collins / Gabriel
Nurkic / Kanter / Labisserrie

I'll throw my hat in the ring for Delladova. 3+ assist/turnover ratio, maybe not a great defender but a pesky one.

Portland can wait a bit to see how best to use their BAE for put aside Atlanta, OKC and perhaps the
Knicks, nobody else has much money to spend.

LOL....Batum has been released by the Hornets.
I'm so glad we did not sign him to a big contract.

The Blazers were rumored to want Kris Dunn. If they want a defensive PG, why not give Wade Baldwin another try?

Ibaka signs for the MLE. So disappointing to see how many decent players are signing for the MLE. Sure wish the Blazers could have done a little better with the MLE.

Always liked Ibaka. Good luck to him.
Covington was a strong move before other deals went down and still is IMHO.
Kanter isn’t my favorite, but he did right by the Blazers in the playoffs. A good move for $3 million added to the team salary.
And Olshey has earned some benefit of the doubt on the MLE given all the positive articles written about DJJ prior to the opening of free agency. Even Melo (not a favorite of mine) is up for another year.
This team is deep.

I'd be willing to bet Nic ends up in LA to team once again with Wesley Matthews to chase a ring with the Lakers
Return to Portland Trail Blazers
