Great signing. The Celtics have been SOFT for a while now. Tristan isn't an enforcer type G but he plays hard and will overall help to improve the Celtics.

Id be surprised if he wasn't your starter from day 1

It's an exception for teams over the cap. It's a % of the cap as it changes. Which right now MLE stands at about 9 million per season. It allows teams over the cap to have a chance at a decent free agent or two, even if they don't have cap space. So they aren't completely incapable of improving. Obviously they can't pull a real star in their prime with 9 mil, but it keeps them from only being able to sign minimum players the whole offseason.

The midlevel exception is given to teams that otherwise have no cap space. When you spend it it still counts against the cap and you have to pay penalties if you're over the luxury tax line, but it's useful for capped teams to still be able to bolster their roster a bit.

Montrezl Harrell took his spot, who is also a Klutch client.

Thompson already won a ring with LeBron in Cleveland, so he's probably looking for more money and years in his new contract.

Nets still have their tax payer MLE, which is on paper, definitely nowhere near enough to sign Ibaka.

Can always do a sign and trade for one of levert or Spencer with Allen (yes, its a bit greedy) lol.

We didn't "lose" Kanter. We salary dumped him because he stinks and doesn't fit our play style

He won’t start. Theis can’t rebound but being able to knock down a jump shot will keep him in the starters role.

I don't hate this for the Celtic.. Thompson for 2 yrs, full mle should get you close to a double-double and solid defense. I thought Noel was a better fit, but this isn't bad.

With Tristan and Jeff Teague the Celts added competent veteran depth which was much needed. They will help a ton.

The problem with that is hard cap implications.

Good signing, fits well. Hopefully for them they get the normal TT and not the Kardashian version.

He'd be a good minimum level or taxpayer MLE signing, but full MLE for him is a waste. Guy doesn't do anything at a high level except rebounding. His defensive metrics blow, and his offensive efficiency is awful for a center.

  Joe Harris defensive metrics are awful yet Nets fans call him solid. At least Thompson has a solid defensive rpm every year. Calling him a minimum player is just ridiculous, I’m guessing you never made one comment about the guy before he signed with Boston.
