Batum would put us over the tax right?

we can't unless it's a trade that sends him out right away for a player under 21m for hard cap reasons. So unlikely this has anything to do with Batum.

We still need a rim protector, legit big though. TT should definitely start over Theis.

Theis is twice the defender TT is though.

Rim protection is kind of a fools gold stat if it comes at the cost of switches.

Same reason Theis would have started over Turner.

That and Theis is really **** good.

There is an argument for verticality on offense with Smart starting though (if he is) to play TT and sacrifice the defense and hope Smart makes up for the defensive sacrifice there to make it worth it to start TT over Theis.

I think we can all safely say that Theis isn’t a good starter on a contender, after that disaster of a series against the heat. He is a good back up though. I would definitely start Turner and TT over him.

He's still soundly better than TT and Turner. Which is whom his competition in this conversation was. Or at the very least TT is.

It appears to be an opinion . That said I dont want to hear about avoiding luxury tax. The team is worth over $ 3 billion. The Nets are spending money as if they're printing it, no luxury tax problems. Joe Harris $20 million per.....no problem...done deal....now on to Ibaka, and we'll still go after Harden. STOP WITH BEING UNDER THE TAX. Enough! Put on your big boy pants.
Get the trade exception at the least from Charlotte and be prepared to really try to use it creatively. Hayward going to Charlotte may end up being a blessing in disguise. What if Beal wants out into the season with the whole John Wall circus? The Celtics could be in play on anyone. No one says we have to use it right away

Apron's typically about 6 mil over tax line. Do we have reason to believe it's different this year?

My one concern after seeing the Celtics play against the zone in the playoffs is

The players in red in that rotation have confirmed they can't shoot.

And Pritchard has as much hype as Edwards did about his shooting ability so he's suspect until proven in that area. Not that he'd see any minutes now with Teague on board.

Marcus Smart is borderline these days with his 3 point shooting though. Almost average which is what you need.

I don't want to have to keep in the luxury tax counter on our team just to have an expiring like Batum on the roster eating up minutes and/or space.

Well, if we took that deal, I would assume they would be compensating us. How much would they give up to avoid 9 million on their books for the next 3 years. I know they can waive and stretch, but 27 million dollars would be a lot of money to save.

But we already agreed on a deal with Thompson, which would seem to take that possibility away even if we wanted to do that right?
