Hmmm.. so do we believe in Masai..

Post#1 » by rapluva » Sun Nov 22, 2020 3:56 am

Ok.. not being negative here.. what other reason could we have that the Raps have been so quiet in free agency/ trade deadline besides the fact that none of these free agents wanted to sign with Toronto..didn't help that they decided to play in Tampa a day or two ago...

We are taking our time with Ibaka as well.. looks like he is going to the Clippers..Marc Gasol would be a nice get as well..looks like we are bringing back the same team as last year..that team can't compete with the East... Atlanta has upgraded..so has Charlotte.. Miami is stronger..so is Boston..Bucks are better..Brooklyn is waiting to feast on everyone.. I would think of handing out one year deals..but how do you do that without signing Freddy and Ibaka on day 1..

What's your take of our slowness ??

You’re negative, impatient and a whiner. That’s my take.

Their options are limited if they want to keep a max spot open next year. They were never going to make any huge moves besides FVV and Serge. Even if Serge and Gasol both don’t come back, don’t expect anything other than an MLE deal for a year and some minimum guys. Next offseason is still the goal.

Yes, I do believe in Masai. He won us a Championship. It happened not that long ago actually.

since, as you say, we're a team that can't compete in the East, who should we have signed with our limited capspace to turn our fortunes around and become a legit contender again?

Didn't say..rush into anything..was just pointing out something we were told..believe in yourself..believe in your city.. I still have the feeling we can't get a free agent to sign here..unless they have already played in Toronto before..

I don't know who we should have gone after..but some of these contracts being handed out..are cheap deals that I didn't expect some of these players signed..

Pretty bold statement there boy..what would your reason be for me to do that... I didn't hate.. just had an opinion..and was looking for yours related to the state of the Raps..

Anywho..it would be a win if we could bring back our very own free agents..

It's literally been one day of free agency and you're making this thread about Masai didn't do anything... and then turning around and saying not rush into anything?

We didn't sign anyone because we're conserving cap space for next season. And we couldn't have gotten anyone that would made us any better than we are now. So what exactly are you expecting from Masai?

As someone mention in another thread, Serge probably chose the Clippers to go to Hollywood, stability as far as where they are going to play and to chase a ring with a team that is desperate to win now. If Masai offered him 20 million for 1 season, I think there's a chance he could've resigned but considering that the raptors are playing in Tampa, no ticket sales, and increased team over-head costs, MLSE probably placed a strict self-imposed spending cap on the Raptors and Masai probably approached that cap with the VanVleet contract. Giving Serge a guaranteed second year would've taken us right out of any 2021 free agent pursuit which is probably the plan from day 1. no need to over react.

It makes what he did with the championship team look even more impressive. These are the types of things that plagued us in the first 20 years

After giving us a chip, I'm riding with Masai, whatever he takes this organization. No questions asked.

Masai isn't perfect, but we've got a great FO and we're in a good place. We were never going to splash out on big (or even medium) moves this year - that's not the plan.

This year is about building. This year is about making sure we're in a good place for next year.

What free agents were you expecting? Our team is capped out, and we don’t have a ton of openings in the rotation outside of the center spot now.

I think we will sign Baynes
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Can you wait until we actually fill out the roster and see this team play for at least 20 games before coming to conclusions?
