Inevitable. Knew it after the first game that we didn't have the full story yet. Shocked that the national media jumped all over the hype based on what amounted to 7 on 7 drills

I think the coaches lost the game at the start of the third, after NW went three and out. Should have decided to impose their will on NW and run the damn ball. Berger had been doing well. This was doubly obvious after Ferguson got nicked up.
Idiots, in my opinion. They went away from Badgers Football.

We need to save Berger for this long and arduous season that lies...wait a second, I've just been handed a note here...

iirc, he had 12 carries in the first half. They should have stuck with him.

Coan didn't get nearly the same caveats like playing N'Western nor Stave in general when he had an even worse receiving corps, coordinator, & coach.

They were better than given credit for, & Mertz is worse. It's the advance hype beasts. But Mertz will bounce back and have a good career here. May well be better than the other two even after every variable outside their control is factored in. But likely not last yr & maybe not even this one.

Coan does come back into the conversation now, whenever he's ready. People forget how good of a season he had last yr because he didn't have the same advance hype & he was being looked passed as a result. Don't know if Bucky even loses at N'Western w/ him considering he's never had near that many TO's & it was still a close game. On all 3 INT's Mertz missed open receivers & he had significantly more time. Coan likely either hits the open receiver, eats it, or throws the ball away.

I do think they need to use Berger more...I don't think they win the game doing so and I think they also probably are not willing to give him 25+ carries/game given that he is still built like a string bean.

It was immaterial, but the decision to punt late with 4:30 or whatever it was down 10 scares me. Chryst definitely talked to an analytics guy before last season and goes for it correctly 90% of the time. I even just let his 4-5 punts/year at the opponent 35 slide now because, "eh, we almost always go for it and maybe there was a good reason here." But that punt late in the game was supremely stupid. You went from taking your odds of converting 4th&4 + a scoring drive + a stop + a scoring drive to a stop + a scoring drive + an onside kick succeeding + a scoring drive.

It is very obvious which option was better even if it didn't matter since the offense sucked.

Doesn’t look promising for the Axe Game, Minnesota might be down and out with Covid.

Or at least that’s their story. 8-)

They can't play in the B10 title game. Pretty sure they can still get a bowl invite.

The secondary bowls are more driven by financial and chamber-of-commerce concerns, correct? Which teams bring cash-spending fans to town for the game. Which teams pull in TV revenue better than others. The fan component probably doesn't factor in so well this year..... The TV revenue from the bowl game probably does.

Enjoyable to see NW struggling early to this version of Sparty.
