There is an issue with matching salaries in the Jrue, Adams, Hill etc. transaction(s).
We're ~2.5 mil short with no suitable assets ready to go. On top of that is Adams' 7.5% trade kicker to deal with.
Melli is the cheapest guy currently on the books at about 9k, then Lonzo @ 11k. Never planned on using either these guys as salary filer, so that's kind of a big problem.
This blockage appears to be stopping the Pels from doing any other business in the mean time.
Not very ideal
That would be a very poor assets management if the Pelicans need to add even more assets in order to get Adams.
I don't think you can lie 100% of the blame on the Pels.
Remember, there's 4 different teams involved. Adams wasn't even going to be included in the first place, a lot of it was organised completely on the fly.
Plus, you can just keep x number of assets all with differing values depending on what salaries you will need to match for a trade you might not know you'll even be doing yet. It's just not practical.
At the end it's because Griffin wants Adams, which is a huge expiring contract and is not actually attractive in the current market. They are already willing to pay a first round pick plus two much smaller expiring contracts for Adams. OKC just got Horford. It's not like they would try any crazy idea of playing Adams and Horford at the same time. So yes I would lie 100% of the blame on the Pelicans if they need to add even more assets because they're just bidding against themselves.
