Why would he go to LA to play on the vet min???

What is his new contract like?

He received the full MLE.

Without TT, Cavs dont win a ring.
No need to be salty.

GL to TT in boston.

After the chip LBJ lackey Rich Paul strong armed the team to give both him and JR smith these massive overpays. It hinder the Cavs ability to build around Lebron and add pieces, which he of course uses as a reason as wanting out. In Tristan case after the signing he became overweight and out of shape, and became more interested in the multiple women he could cheat on his then pregnant wife Khloe with. He only played "well" last year because it was a contract year which is the ultimate sign of laziness. Seeing Ty Lue stick to vets like TT was agonizing and I'm happy he is gone finally. With that said I realize how important he was on that championship team.

He'd be a good minimum level or taxpayer MLE signing, but full MLE for him is a waste. Guy doesn't do anything at a high level except rebounding. His defensive metrics blow, and his offensive efficiency is awful for a center.

  Joe Harris defensive metrics are awful yet Nets fans call him solid. At least Thompson has a solid defensive rpm every year. Calling him a minimum player is just ridiculous, I’m guessing you never made one comment about the guy before he signed with Boston.
Joe Harris defensive metrics are actually better than Tristan Thompson, despite centers typically having higher defensive RPMs

I think this was in direct response to Bam Adebayo. They needed a body to match up to him. TT is that...

I've been lighting candles, sacrificing goats, reading the necronomicon all in hopes of Danny signing a big, but this chipmunk looking mofo wasn't who I had in mind. :( Oh well. It's gonna be tough trying to like this dude.

If I remember correctly, he signed that contract the summer BEFORE the championship. It was after the 1st loss to GS in 2015. And to be fair, he earned his keep in the 2016 finals. I thought his size gave GS trouble, especially after Bogut was out.

But yea LeBron left that team in cap hell with bad players. But after delivering a championship it's well worth it. As a Bulls fan, if someone told me that for the next decade, I can have 7-8 years of futility but 2-3 years of contention with 1 of those being a championship , I take that deal.

The contract is fine. Do you see the contracts that have been getting thrown at mediocre players the last few days?

I don’t like using that as a reason to justify the contract someone gets.

I’m a Knicks fan so a lot of ppl in the fan base have used this in the past to justify the absolutely abysmal contracts they’ve handed out.

Not comparing the scenarios or saying this is abysmal, just saying that logic isn’t good enough IMO

Celtics had to get a big. Serge Ibaka woulda been ideal, but he clearly had other suitors.

I personally thought Celts woulda gone for 2 solid rotation bigs in Noel, Baynes, or Dedmon and splitting up the non tax MLE as needed to secure 2 of those 3 names. Ideally 1 lanky switch ez defender and 1 stretch 5. Well Dedmon is stlll an option with a vet min.

He won’t start. Theis can’t rebound but being able to knock down a jump shot will keep him in the starters role.

paid too much for TT then imo hes been a starter his entire career

He wasn't a starter pretty much the entire time Lebron was in Cleveland

He will start definitely. Theis is a good bench player, and he should come off the bench.

D12 would have been a better signing

Per 36
TT: 14-12-1
D12: 14-14-2

I get that most fans don't see much of Theis, but a statement like this shows how criminally underrated Daniel Theis is lol.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

It's within $10 mill per and it's only 2 years. Doesn't handcuff them at all. Any team that is signing OK vets should be doing so in 2 year increments

I don't get the excitement.

Thompson is an absolute klutz.

What's the point having a good rebounder if they do everything else bad?

TT would be in LA if the Cs didn’t pay up.

I know he's changed a bit, but I don't think our coaching staff/front office like Dwight too much, we've had multiple chances to sign him.

Also, Thompson ha worked on his shooting and seems as if he might be able to hit the wide open 3.
Good assessment:
