What's the point of the TPE if we can't use it? Serious question, I'm quite bad at cap and stuff.

The Felicio portion may be necessary since CHI doesn't have the cap space to absorb all of Terry's salary.
Eh, it worked on tradenba..... but, yeah, that seems pretty solid all around doesn't it? Assuming CHA wants off Terry.
CHI: Terry for Sato/Felicio
CHA: Gordon for Terry
BOS: Felicio, TPE for Gordon
We can keep Felicio for trade ballast. Or waive him if we need the roster spot. Not sure anyone really needs picks even.

Would we avoid the tax if we give him 20 per year?

How about this one:
PHO gets Zeller (they get a backup center unless they just plan on re-signing Baynes)
CHA gets Hayward (they keep all their ballhandlers; still many bigs in FA market)
BOS gets Nader (absorbed into Poirier TPE), $27.9M TPE
Nader is like the rich man's Hayward so this is highway robbery by us.

Nope. If some team signs him to that, bless them. You think he's worth that much?

It lasts til next offseason. In theory, it can be up to Gordon's full contract if we don't take anything back. Call it $27M. That means at any point into next offseason (usually a year, who knows now with Covid), we can trade for a player up to that amount and not have to send out matching salary.

We won't take on Batum or Zeller's contract even if they're expiring. Batum will put us over the tax. Zeller may not, but we already signed Thompson and have Theis/Timelord/Grant as backups.
The TPE is the prize here and whatever pick they can throw our way along with it. We can use both to sign an FA (why Bogdan's name is being brought up) or for midseason trades or for next offseason.
I thought the Hornets were waiving Batum to make room?
After much media ridicule, I think MJ realized it was a bad idea.

Though we need to trade something that might entice the other team right? like draft picks

Yeah, it just makes dealing with the salary side so much easier. Say some team had a guy we really wanted signed for $25M and wanted Romeo & a first. We could do that deal without having to worry about adding a ton of extra players in simply to match salary.

Slick, if CHA wants off Zeller. Can CHA take Baynes back in an S&T in the same deal? Money would work.
Then Theis would be jelly of his boys reuniting in CHA without him.

Would Baynes agree to a starting salary of about $8M? 'Cos I don't think it can exceed that for both him and Hayward to fit into CHA's cap space.
