There's no guarantee Masai is even here next year.
What if Balmer offers an absurd deal that MLSE can't compete with? Would be the finishing blow.

Yes. Still believe in Masai. The man has done a great job. Whatever it is that happens behind the scenes doesn't change the fact that he is good at his job. The outcomes that we see should be taken as the best possible scenario because chances are he did the best he could. He hasn't given much reason for anyone to think the man is incompetent, or even average, when it comes to it.

Lmao every off-season since 2015 there's at least 1 "do you believe in Masai?" Thread its like clock work. But to answer your question, yes I believe in the guy that brought the Raptors a championship in *checks year* 2019. Like guys it was 2 seasons ago, and he's clearly focused on adding high impact players while not comprising our 2021 cap.

Masai slander should result in an automatic ban
He literally delivered a championship a year ago, what more do you want?

Masai hasn’t signed himself. Should he even be making decisions for the future of the team?

I think we will sign Baynes
Or maybe Marc Gasol and Baynes

Ok ..I take back the believing in Masai thing.. but do you seriously believe these American born players ..especially who are Star players want to come play for Toronto..
So we run it back..without Ibaka..possibly Gasol.. we can say let's get Baynes..but until we sign him..it doesn't help saying that.. we are wasting what Kyle has left in the tank..Unless Masai has a wink wink deal with Giannis for next season..I don't know what Toronto will do with all that cap space next season?

Agreed, but that's why it's hard not to conclude that free agents just don't want TO, no matter how great Masai and the organization are, and even with a title in the bag. If we have a mediocre, center-less season, hoping for 2021-22 won't matter because top FA's won't come to a team unless it's already strong and a contender.

Sure but keeping one you already had is not the same as attracting a new one.

rapluva wrote:Ok.. not being negative here.. what other reason could we have that the Raps have been so quiet in free agency/ trade deadline besides the fact that none of these free agents wanted to sign with Toronto..didn't help that they decided to play in Tampa a day or two ago...
We are taking our time with Ibaka as well.. looks like he is going to the Clippers..Marc Gasol would be a nice get as well..looks like we are bringing back the same team as last year..that team can't compete with the East... Atlanta has upgraded..so has Charlotte.. Miami is stronger..so is Boston..Bucks are better..Brooklyn is waiting to feast on everyone.. I would think of handing out one year deals..but how do you do that without signing Freddy and Ibaka on day 1..
What's your take of our slowness ??
You questioning Masai NOW after everything he and his management team have done over the years?

Re: Hmmm.. so do we believe in Masai..
Not questioning Masai but there are elements that are worrying
1) pascals contract will eff us. It already has. We had no space to keep ibaka
2) Masai has not resigned and could pull a theo Epstein
3) ibaka went for way less than we thought and that is gonna sting for a while.

You' re only as good as your last move, which was a swing and a miss. The past counts for nothing unless you like sitting on your laurels. The test now is to get us back into relevance in short order, and that is not an easy task. We'll need years to look back on this period. It's impossible to say now if we are doing the right moves. I'm a big believer in luck and being patient.

This thread is why the divorce rate is so high.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
Please advise….

Siakam's contract had nothing to do with Ibaka. We had Ibaka's bird rights and we could've paid him whatever we wanted.ratul wrote:Not questioning Masai but there are elements that are worrying

The Raps decided not to give a multi-year deal to a player over 30 years old. They could've offered Ibaka 3/45 and signed him on the first day of free agency. But that's not best for the Raps future.
The Raps want to preserve cap space for 2021. You can't do that by signing Ibaka beyond 1 year.
