Conspiracy theory: Why Ibaka has gone to Clippers

Post#1 » by bluerap23 » Sun Nov 22, 2020 5:33 pm

Ibaka was sent to LA by Masai to mess up their team and recruit Kawhi.

This would be the ultimate revenge on Balmer and Frank.

lol I think hes more into the Hollywood LA lifestyle with his shows, fashion life. He also has a better shot at a ring with the Clippers than Raptors.

Wishful thinking. Starting hanging around too many media types and LA sucked him in.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Its quite simple.

He felt unloved, 100%.

Dumb ass Nurse kept playing dumpster juice Gasol over him, even though Serge was always effective. Serge deserved better.

I think has a part to do with it.

Combine that with Kawhi + California is a good sell too.

This i agree with and mentioned quite frequently.
Now you have Gasol on the brink of retirement while Ibaka still has a ton of juice left.

Not to mention we gave Fred a long term contract and probably offered ibaka a 1 year deal at best. We're pretty much telling him he's expendable after 2021 so you cant blame him for leaving.

I guess it depends on your definition of being unloved.

No matter what he may or may not have felt in the playoffs with his PT or lack-there-of, if Raptors came and offered 18-20M 1 year deal, I have to think he would've taken it. He makes in one year what he would've had to make in 2 years and he gets another shot at free agency in the offseason where more teams are projected to have money to spend.

I think that would matter more to him than anything else because money is more important to today's players than anything and he's already got a ring so he doesn't necessarily have to ring chase if money makes sense, which it would've done in this case.

I'm not sure what happened but it seems like Ibaka misplaced his hand. He ended up getting less than his market value and the chance to sign with the Lakers instead.

It's too bad things didn't work out since Ibaka is a huge loss for us but we obviously chose cap flexibility over giving him the deal he wanted. He deserved a 3 yr/$60m deal but by yesterday every other team had used up their cap space so he decided to go for the bright lights and title aspirations of the Clippers. I see him opting out and trying again next summer to secure his last big deal.

There's no sugarcoating his loss makes us weaker. Only time will tell if it was the right move for us to make. I agree though it didn't make sense for us to go into the tax to give him what he wanted since we aren't competing this season.

If we offered that he would've taken it. We probably offered him similar terms as Clippers, which quite frankly from his vantage point alone is disrespectful.

Ibaka signed a 2nd year player option for one reason.
He trusts Kawhi on the court to have a chance to win the title, but doesn't trust what Kawhi will do next offseason if things don't go well in Clipper land -- nor does he trust Kawhi's body. He obviously protected himself from Kawhi and Uncle Dennis being a snake next summer.

Still wondering why he wanted the player option after 1 year. Think that hurts more than anything lol

If Ibaka couldn't convince Kawhi to stay, what makes you think he can convince him to come back?

More teams with cap space next year so he'll have a better chance for desperate teams to offer something big in worst case.

He would've got the same opportunity here IMO had we offered something like 1-year 18M deal and it would've been win-win for both sides. Unfortunate.

A lot of teams are going to have cap space next year. He probably thinks he can get 3/50m next year or something. He might but even when Raptors signed him to his last contract people were worried he was done.
