yeah it kinda just looked like they **** up.

They could have used the 25 on a pg like Flynn or Terry and then use 33 on Quickley and then could have just went youth and rolled with the results.

If they just do the same thing they do every year and play the vets over there young players it just shows they have no plan and simply just struck out in FA. It kinda does show that because they seemd to be serious about Hayward before his contract got out of control.

So I'm not giving them credit for doing notihng they just struck out.

if quickley is who you think he is... and he doesn't make it back to 33...

I don't hate the Quickley pick and I'm not even going to go as far as others and say he would have been there at 33, because we can't know that for sure and there is some intel suggesting he might not be. BUT. I would be a lot happier if we had drafted any of the PGs on the board at 33 as opposed to bringing back Payton. Even just as a backup to Frank/DSJ. Why not take a look at Nico Mannion. He can shoot. Maledon is a project but Frank might bond with him, Tre Jones and Cassius Winston could have contributed. Who knows if one of these guys breaks out. We're tanking. Any of this is preferable to Elfrid Payton.

I'm waiting to hear any logic that explains this other than "they F'd up" which I can accept

yes. draft younger players instead of win now players. use the 33rd pick. use cap space to get picks. don't sign a bunch of washed up vets like elfrid payton

exactly how is obi toppin a win now move? because he's 22?

did you know damian lillard was a 22 year old rookie? nah you didn't.

this draft was historically weak and you're complaining about not keeping the 33rd pick in a weak draft? completely ignoring they accumulated draft picks in 2023 when hs players are elible.

I'll stop manically posting after this.

I truly believe he was brought here for PG depth because Frank or DSJr are going out in a trade.
Still not the person I'd have brought for the depth, but I think that's the why.

Knicks aren't going to carry 3 PG's and a combo guard in Quickly into the start of the season.

Gut feeling is it's Randle + (Frank or DSJr) for X

Where X just might be Westbrook but it could be someone else

yeah i think DSJ goes where Randle goes. i think DSJ only has an NBA career if he's sent to North Carolina. what can we get from the Hornets?

not being done with moves def crossed my mind as rationale for elf. if you're trading frank/DSJ, you'll still need a backup. if nothing else, elfrid is a steady if unremarkable hand in that role. at times the game really comes to him and everything's working and you get those triple doubles he's so prone to getting. but outside of that... flat soda.

thanks for everything, thibs.

If we tank this season, do it right. We've been terrible for years and decades, and never getting 1st pick or even in top 3.

Warriors got to build a dynasty and then in 1 (ONE) freakin mishap season (maybe about to become 2 seasons now!) where they're forced to tank, they got IMMEDIATELY rewarded with a 2nd pick. I'm pissed beyond belief.

****, if you wanna win, then win, if you wanna lose, then lose, but **** do it right! Don't frikkin half ass it.

randle's option would be attractive to the hornets in that scenario, no?

amen. i thought the second rounder would be great. lots of value IMO.

the one thing i've heard that i can kinda understand was that at the time the knicks didn't want to commit that many roster spots to rooks/virtual rooks. so it made sense to get their guy and find another use for the 2nd round asset. clearly my draft board looked A LOT different from the knicks'. (but after looking a little closer at quickley, i see why mine needed tossing.)

crazy to think that the move up to 23 could have been to assure quickley, and then moved back to 25 maybe after getting intel on what 24 was going to do (not quickley).

Because it's a wild overpay and it winds up being an unmovable contract

See, I thought when the Knicks gave Portis 18 million, or even Taj 10 million, that they would have real value as "expirings" but they didn't, because they just aren't that good RELATIVE TO PERFORMANCE. Also, and I think this is important, it's hard to make the fit.

So it winds up being another hugely overpriced vet who they'll be stuck with for the entire year, yet in no way is part of the future or even the following season.
And even if it's a far greater fit/position of need, it's a bad idea.

In fact, it's a bad enough idea to me that I'd about take Elf at 5 million over it, just because it ties up less cash and he's theoretically easier to move, even though no one wants Elf at any price, other than Scott Perry.

Well that’s if you intend on moving the contract. And looking at the roster i don’t think you’d move him at all. Moving a guy on a one year deal should be the least of your concern especially if the guy will help the development of the young guys. It’s not about DJ it’s about the young guys learning to play with someone they can rely on to help with spacing which in turn will give them more room to operate instead of going a full season with Payton who we saw freeze out young guys and disrupt spacing. And comparing DJ to Taj and Bobby is disrespectful honestly.

20 million means he's your starting PG playing 30 minutes a game.
Bad idea.

He’d be the starting point guard playing 30 minutes a game but not because of the 20 million lol. When Elfrid is playing 30 minutes a game you won’t say it’s because of his contract and when we can’t move him at the deadline it won’t matter if he’s making only 5 million or not. The move would be for the young guys but whatever.

I agree with the idea that things seem to be coming up way short as opposed to the Knicks doing anything by choice.

However I still like some of the main youngsters, including one more step forward for Frank to be a very good role player.

Also other teams don’t even have a single guy worth watching. I don’t like the Bulls guys much for instance.

Hopefully they get their sea legs. Payton doesn’t derail the long term plan but he could infect Mitch and Obi and RJ.
