Is he roughly half as good?

Not being a smartarse - I genuinely don't know.

And do we need a new Biz thread? The old ones in the sticky post are locked.

Biz is one of my favorite people in the league and I love him sticking around on a vet minimum deal just to be a cool guy that we all love, but its not a good sign if we go into the season expecting to win games and hes our 2nd or 1st center option.

More than half as good, IMO

Yep, healthy Hayward is clearly a better player. They are similar level as scorers, with Bogs maybe having a slight advantage at this stage, but Hayward is a better playmaker and defender by a decent amount. However, Bogs is two years younger, doesn't have injury issues, and only costs 18 mil per season compared to 30 for Hayward (39 if the Batum stretch happens).

I know that I brought up Bogdanovic as someone I liked for this team well before the Hayward signing.

Hayward is the better player (right now) but Bogs is younger and cheaper. Bogs would bring shooting and passing which are two of the things we are looking for from Hayward, plus he's had a lot fewer injuries.

I'm not mad about Hayward and there are upsides. Bogs is a RFA, so the Kings might match. It would suck to have a repeat of the first Hayward signing where the team's cap is all tied up while other guys go elsewhere.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I’m curious on the Bogdan thing too. I mean I’ve heard of him and know he’s a decent player but what makes him a $30m per year player? Atlanta doesn’t seem him as a $30m per year player.

Hes not a 30 mil per year player. His 18 mil per deal is actually pretty fair market value for him, which is rare to see in a contract this offseason. The thing is that Hayward is not a 30 mil per year player. Fair market value for an 18 mil guy > 30 million (39 with Batum stretch) for a 20-25 mil player.

From TheAthletic on pre-RFA estimated values

Bogdan Bogdanovic (R), Sacramento — $13,482,889

Bogdanovic was one of the few Kings who improved his value in the bubble games, including a 35-point eruption against the Pelicans. Despite his restricted status, Bogdanovic could get offers for more than my projected valuation given that how many teams covet his mix of shooting and ballhandling. Defense? Let me get back to you on that.

Sacramento’s cap moves before the trade deadline (you know, the thing that happened nine months ago) seemed an indication that they wanted to clear room below the tax line to match any offer for Bogdanovic, but since then the Kings have changed management. How the new front office led by Monte McNair values him is anyone’s guess.

Gordon Hayward (PO), Celtics — $17,028,559

Hayward has a player option for $34.2 million that he will almost certainly pick up. That said, it’s worth having the conversation in Boston about having him opt out and sign a long-term deal at a smaller number that would pull the Celtics out of the luxury tax this season.

Hayward would be 31 a year from now, so his value in his age 31-to-33 seasons would presumably decline from the $17.1 million figure above. Let’s call it $14 million a year. Tacking three years at that price onto the current $34 million makes a four-year package worth about $75 million. Is that better for Boston than the current situation? Perhaps not, given that Jayson Tatum will likely be on a supermax deal after this season. But it’s a discussion worth having.

I hope that if Monk has a promising season that we sign him to a similar deal to the DeAnthony Melton contract. I have a feeling that we are actually going to lose him even if it looks like he is going to pan out, though, because of the Batum stretch nonsense.

Willie Cauley-Stein is really the best guy to upgrade our rim protecting. I'd think we could get him with the MLE.

Looks like we have to sign Baynes then. I don't make the rules.

Baynes probably goes to whoever loses out on signing Gasol between Toronto and the Lakers. Would certainly help here.

What are some of the realistic center options left that could be had for 5 million or less? At this point I'm mostly looking for solid vets that are good in the locker room and good enough to move Biz to the 3rd option (and the 2nd round rookies playing for Greensboro). Young guys with a bit of upside, but still ready to play from day one, would also be welcome. Bonus points to anyone who can also play PF. I want absolutely no part of Whiteside.

Dewayne Dedmon
Kyle O'Quinn
Cheick Diallo
John Henson
Skal Labissiere
Alex Len

The pickings are very slim at this point. I'd be cool with Dedmon or Kyle O'Quinn. McGee was traded to Cleveland, but could be a buyout target. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Diallo or Labissiere, but they might just suck.

Edit: Updated for new signings/trades and I also forgot about Dedmon getting waived.

Well, McGee's going to Cleveland. Maybe they waive him?

Ugh, we could have gotten a starting center and 2nd round pick... I'm hoping for a waive as well. Not sure if hed actually have any interest in coming here, though. Probably goes to a contender, but maybe we can lure him with a starting gig since hes already won multiple rings.

We are kind of locked out from making any deals like that until we resolve the situation with Hayward s&t. Ainge is probably stalling as long as possible just to be a dick and prevent us from being able to do any other moves.
