Why pay a washed up vet $9M to mentor someone when you could probably find an ex-player to come in as a coach/advisor at a fraction of the price that doesn’t count against the cap/tax? If we’re paying anything over vet min, I want someone who can actually play and contribute.

Exactly my thoughts. And I don't think anyone is paying Gasol $9M, not the Lakers, not the Raptors, and certainly not us.

Agree, I think the Gasol hype is unwarranted. Besides, between the Raptors and the Lakers I doubt we'd have much chance. Have to turn over the trash cans and scrounge for a wing or two. I would pick up Batum on the cheap if possible.

I think we need to look at Gasol differently.

If he comes to the Warriors, he’s not going to be playing 30-35 minutes/night...... more like 15 surgically-timed minutes, when the other team has a big center on the court needing defense (or at least when he won’t be terribly exposed), or on some key offensive possessions. The majority of the minutes will be going to Wiseman, Chriss, and Looney (who I expect would be traded if Gasol comes). And obviously a little bit of Draymond.

He’d be coming for his wisdom, leadership, etc.... To help with veteran stability and leadership, and teaching our young big guys. Most of his stretches on the court would be 6 minutes at a time or less, when he could go all out.

I’d be excited to get him (if it happens) - not because I’m expecting the Marc Gasol of 5 years ago, but because we’re getting a guy who has phenomenal basketball knowledge and leadership that can be applied for 15 minutes/night on the court, and 1440 minutes/day on and off the court.

Wiseman would be the biggest beneficiary of Gasol coming here. As you said, Gasol coming here almost certainly means Looney is gone. If this team were to have deep playoff aspirations, which they should but I don't think they'll be able to pull off without Klay, I'd be more bummed about losing Looney because he's been our non-Draymond big in the playoffs for two years now and is one of the best switching bigs in the league. But if it will take a miracle for us to get to the WCF, which is more or less where we stand right now, it makes sense to go after Gasol for Wiseman's longterm development, even if it means our C rotation come playoff time is: an aging Gasol who can't switch, a green Wiseman who will probably get demolished by Luka or Dame or Mitchell in the PNR, or Chriss.

Gasol looked awful in the bubble. Back then I thought for sure he was on his way back to Spain. Glad we're not in the running there.

I like the Baynes idea much better.

Please review the CBA, and get back to us on how the Warriors would “clear space” for Gasol.

(Note: a pet peeve of mine is people who casually suggest doing impossible - or massively impractical - things, without taking the time to understand what they’re saying. Such as “clear space” for Gasol. Because there is no way to “clear space” for him without making massive changes. The only 3 ways of getting him are [a} the Warriors get granted the disabled player exemption within the next few days and sign him for up to $9.3M for 1 year; [b] he signs for some or all of the remaining amount of the MLE, which is $3.4M; or [c] the Warriors trade either Curry, or 2 of Klay, Draymond, and Wiggins without taking any salary back, such that they can sign Gasol for a salary larger than $3.4M. Option “c” is the “clear space” way. So I assume that’s what you’re suggesting.)

We just applied for it yesterday. Typically it takes several weeks for the league to decide whether to approve it or not since it requires specific NBA-approved doctors to review the case and make a determination.

Heard on the radio that the Warriors are hopeful it will go through Monday.

Good news, I was hoping with the truncated off-season that they might expedite their decision. The nba is better when the warriors are better, help us out!

Clearly if the Warriors don't clear some space they are just tanking or terrible at their job. Jerry West would make it happen! This front office sucks.

This one should be pretty cut-and dried, give that it would require an 8-month recovery, and nobody has done that ever......
