Spellman ate his way out of Atlanta and admitted it. I like his skill set. If he has improved his diet and conditioning, he could one day be a good player. Davis is another vet presence for that Wolves team.
This could be good for both teams.

I think this is a solid add for Minnesota.

Spellman is exactly the kind of low-risk, medium-reward guy a rebuilding team like the Knicks should take a flier on. Evans sucks but at least he’s cheap

3 seconds, Evans and Spellman for having a cup of coffee with Ed Davis seems as good as moving up in the 1st and 2nd for free... sneaky good trades by Leon Rose

For being largely a meh trade, I like it for both. Knicks take fliers on young guys and a pick. Wolves move two players they might not even have kept, adding a good veteran 11th man type.

I would have preferred the $5 mil expiring Mike Scott over the $5 mil expiring Ed Davis, but this is the type of deal I mentioned a few hours ago in the PF thread.
This is more matching salary for Rosas in a potential future trade without waiving Jacob Evans and it helps get MIN down to the 15 man roster limit.

I could also see the Knicks squeezing a second rounder out of the Warriors (WCS TPE) for Spellman and getting 2 seconds to take on Davis, a 2nd in return for him from the T'Wolves and a 2nd from the resulting Spellman trade.

Good deal for the Knicks,
Why rely on nuance, facts and logic when you can bludgeon the other side with mindless repetition of "Duuur McDaniel's has potential
and still be treated as if you were reasonable.

I thought Jazz fans hated Davis last year. I've always thought he was a bit underrated, but from their comments I'd kinda assumed he was done. I mean, 5 mil's not much, but it sounded like he wasn't even really an NBA player anymore...

I wouldn't say we hated him, he's a really good guy and reportedly was incredibly important for lockerroom chemistry. I suspect that's actually the reason Minnesota wants him more than anything. But his lift seemed to be completely gone all year until the very end (had a nice last game against Dallas and...got hurt during the game). Maybe he was hurt all year, but I just suspect he's not going to be anything more than a chemistry guy. I think he and Rubio are good enough professionals, though, to help they young guys on that team for what's really a small investment.

Yeah, I get that, but it sounds like Minny have a pretty big hole at PF and could use a guy who can give them 20+ productive minutes a game. To the extent Davis can still do anything, can he play at the 4?

I think he could next to Towns. I wouldn't say he can give you 20+ minutes, though. You'd be better off splitting those minutes between Jake Layman and Juancho Hernangomez.

Wow Min gave up a second to move a prospect like Spellman? I think he was rated as the 3rd best prospect if he was on the knicks by the trade board. Look forward to seeing him on the knicks.
Solid move by NY. If only they would limit their transactions to trading for bad expiring's with seconds, instead of signing middling vets.

Omari Spellman was a malcontent the second he was traded to Minnesota, and purposefully stopped engaging with the team. Perhaps he puts in a sliver of effort elsewhere, but as a player who already had a reputation for laziness, him coming to Minnesota with a terrible attitude made moving him a positive for the team. Omari was the textbook definition of "unprofessional".
Getting a second and saving a million dollars is the cool part about this trade for New York, with a "you never know"-card attached.

Spellman and Evans are guaranteed over 7 million beteeen them for the 2021-2022 season, wolves did not want that.

I thought we'd have to pay to send them away, so this is neutral at worst imo

I don't think i'd call it "sneaky good", it's just clearly good. My brain can't handle the knicks not being stupid so i keep expecting the other shoe to drop with some ridiculous contract that ruins everything.
