No reason Boston would walk away from it. The simplest version - TPE for a 2nd or two - is close to a no-brainer. Have to assume it's in play until CHA officially signs Hayward.

Only reason it wouldn't be is if they choose to cut off their own nose to spite us for some reason, and turn down free 2nds.

I'm going full Danny, but it's really not up to BOS to pony up 2nds. It's about CHA figuring out where they can offload Rozier or Zeller or Batum and save $7M. Depending on the circumstances, if we need to kick in a 2nd to grease that wheel, sure. But, we could also take back a contract, etc. TPE would be great for us. But the true need is CHA not having to stretch Batum.

Well, really... the TRUE need is Gordon to get pen to paper before they come to their senses. But, after that, CHA need is greater than ours.

Agreed to an extend, but I don't really see Boston taking back enough salary from CHA to accomplish their objective of not stretching Batum for them. In which case, whatever deal they make to get that done doesn't strictly have anything to do with us.

At that point, it's just a gesture of goodwill to choose to structure the Hayward signing as a sign-and-trade to give us the TPE. I assume we toss them a second for the trouble. Then I assume they're kind of dicks about it cause they know we really value that TPE, and threaten to cut off their own noses to spite us and walk away with nothing if we don't make it a first. Then it probably settles on two seconds.

Just my guess.

Man, you are not doing well here. Post stuff about basketball. It's not that hard a concept. Future posts like this or your previous one I commented on are going to get you warnings and a ban following very shortly afterwards.

BOS gets: TPE for Hayward's full salary

NYK gives: Randle

CHA gives: Batum
CHA gets: Hayward (via S&T), 2 2nds from Boston

Swapping Batum for Randle creates the room the Hornets need to sign Hayward without stretching Batum and reducing the cap space they will have next year by $9M because of that. They tried to sign Harrell and Randle is an approximation of that for a year. They can waive/stretch his $4M guarantee next year which would only be $1.3M on the cap vs Batum's $9M. They get 2 2nds from us in addition to not having to pay the cost to NY.

The Knicks take on an extra $8M this year but it's offset partially by losing Randle's $4M guarantee next year. Randle isn't a good player to have as they try to develop young guys. They get 2 2nds for the extra $4M this year and this deal helps their quest for a high pick too.

We get a huge TPE to partially dip into or wait until next year when we aren't hard capped anymore.

CHA is getting a sweetheart deal here, imo. They are not having to waive Batum, and saving money by shipping him out, and getting a useful player. I don't think we need to pay them 2 2nds for the privilege.

I get we should give something for that full TPE, but it should all be going to the Knicks. And CHA should have to kick in too.
I'd try one 2nd from us, one from CHA. That's still a steal for them.

I feel ya. But they can do the Randle/NY trade themselves and not help us out. I don't want to play too hard and they just do that. Ainge loves to leverage the heck out of teams when he has the chance. We're the ones over the barrel now. I'm ok if he has to eat some some humble pie in the form of giving up some extra second rounders.

Yeah, I'm talking 3 team deals where we take back a lower salary guy so CHA pockets enough remainder to not have to waive Batum.

Like Rozier to CHI, Sato to CHA, Felicio to us. That type of thing. Saves them enough money to not need to waive Batum, and we still get a $20M tpe. Or Batum to CHI, Thad to CHA, Felicio to us. CHI gets out of long term money. Etc. CG had one with PHO and Zeller. That's the kind of deals CHA/Danny should be trying to set up. And I don't think BOS has to bear the full brunt of the incentive for the other team.

Yeah, that's the danger. So, I want us to chip in SOME stuff and be useful to the 3-team trade. But, I don't think we need bear all the cost in any of these ideas. It helps CHA a ton too.

The TPE doesn't expire for a year. So even if no one is available now, we can use it next year.

It cannot be combined with players to match. So if you have a $16M TPE you can't add a $4M player to make it count as $20M outgoing money.

We have $13.5M or $15.7M left to spend under the tax line (depending on if Teague bot bi-annual exception or vet minimum). You can use part of the TPE and roll the rest forward to next year if you want.

It probably has little use right now but at the deadline it could be useful. And next year we could use it to try and acquire a big salary. It can only help flexibility.

Isn't Jordan Bell the guy Ainge was an idiot for not drafting when he took Semi instead?

I read that from many posters. In their defense, he is the guy who helped the Warriors win their championship his rookie season. He was playing meaningful minutes and had several splash plays. He had to leave the court in a wheelchair the following season due to a bad injury and hasn't been the same ever since. But in his limited time he made a bigger impact on the team that drafted him than Semi has for us. But it is funny how Danny apologists try and fail to defend Danny's awful drafting like this. Imagine using Semi to defend his drafting. That's a wrap

Gotcha. Guess I'm actually being pessimistic, for no good reason, about the odds of any of that happening.

If we are involved in facilitating CHA not having to stretch Batum, you're right, I see no reason for us to pay any further. That's more than enough value for them.

Honestly, I kind of just want the 30mil TPE though. More than willing to trade a couple seconds for it.

snowman wrote:Speaking of the possible TPE with Charlotte, I am not a "cap" person, but is this the kind of deal we are looking for ? Or am I looking at this totally wrong ?

If we trade them Hayward (in a sign and trade) along with Semi, Green and Edwards and take back Zeller, that would be $34,788,912 (assuming Hayward at 30 mil) going out and $15.415.730 along with a trade exception of $19,373,182 coming back. Then we could flip Zeller to another team for something. Doesn't Charlotte need to shed around 20 mil, give or take a bit?

So Hayward's outgoing salary is 27.9 mil and CHA has roughly 20 mil in cap space. They need to open up 8 mil. So for CHA Zeller and his 15 works fine but for Boston depending on the details I think that puts them over the hard cap.

The only option I am seeing is Malik Monk at 5.4 mil and and two out the following Caleb & Cody Martin and Jalen McDaniels who all make 1.5 mil. I have no idea how IND feels about these players I am just doing the math. Caleb Martin and McDaniels are not guaranteed. But even this probably doesn't work because of minimum cap charges for empty roster spots. Maybe all 4 would get this all close enough to message the numbers enough to get it done.

Guess what instead of u echoing what u read on fake news like a nice lil parrot and can’t think for yourself, I can’t help u if u can’t see the big picture that all this is a huge psychological operation, there is chaos in every country right now all by design, good luck with that vaccine that u and millions will beg for, from the same people who always talk about population control lol “if we do a great job with healthcare and vaccines, we can lower the world population by 10-15%” Bill Gates at Ted Talks the same guy who sold us Microsoft with viruses and than sold us Anti Virus software Smh, Covid is a 2/10 and LameStream pushes it as a 10/10, did u know Obama made it so mainstream can push fake news as real it’s called the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012 !!! Obama birthed Fake News !!! Only way to get Covid is watching to much news ! I hope there’s least a couple of my Celtic family members who see thru the bs 20/20 vision, only virus u have to get a test to even know u have it! Why are people even getting tested and swabs shoved up their brain when they can’t do nothing for u anyway !?!
