We knew what they were, with this iteration we get younger and our ceiling/potential is much greater IMO. Getting rid of Bledsoe and adding Jrue automatically makes us a better playoff team. Will we be a better regular season team? I'd lean no as there will be some time to get chemistry and roles correct, but playoff team? 100% we are better.

Honestly I think it will be a good thing that the team will have to use the regular season to work out roles and chemistry. The past two seasons they have seem too relaxed and comfortable heading into the playoffs. And maybe having to fit new pieces will naturally provide some more variety on offence which has been a major issue come playoff time.

Yeah, that's a good point. Instead of walking through the motions, guys will actually have to think and adapt. Good change.

There is no way Forbes is starting, honestly he is more of a 3rd stringer.

He's started every game for an average NBA team the last 2 seasons. He's a very good offensive player and a pretty bad defensive player.

These facts do not support your assertion. I think he's a good bench player on a contender. Circumstances may dictate that he starts due to balancing units. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he starts.

Yep, I agree with you that Forbes could start and it wouldn't surprise me. His role will be to hit shots. In Bud's system he'll probably be even more effective. Offense roll with Forbes, Def roll with DDV. My guess is he does start it balances out our starting lineup better IMO. DDV off the bench will probably more effective.

Just looking at career per 36 3 point numbers for players here this year verses last:

Holiday (1.4 @ .354) verses Bledsoe (1.4 @ .336)
Forbes (2.7 @ .400) verses Matthews (2.4 @ .381)
Augustin (1.9 @ .379) verses Hill (1.6 @ .384)
Portis (1.5 @ .360) verses Ilyasova (1.7 @ .365)

DDV's 3 point improvement will be a huge key to the season.

Feels like you really gotta hope BroLo re-discovers his 18-19 3PT percentages, Jrue hits enough catch & shoot 3's playing off Giannis' gravity, and Donte improves across the board (especially from the corners). While the bench clearly got much better in the shooting/spacing dept., the projected starting-5 still has only one elite distance shooter (Middleton), and 3-guys who are average/below-average from the line (Holiday, DDV, Giannis). I think they still improved overall, but having reliable shot-makers in crunch-time situations could still very much be an issue.

Don't have to convince me

But truthfully Cheick isn't exactly what we need. We need to keep the lanes open. We need someone who can move the ball and space for others. He's not shooting the 3 as far as last season and he's not exactly the most crisp decision maker.
And we need someone to defend the plodders in the regular season and that's not exactly his forte.

He's a truely talented big man that has 4 years of league experience despite just turning 24. He's still rough around the edges but he's highly skilled and needs a bigger leash. He's much more than just an energy big but should easily have a place in the league as just that which makes investing in him much easier compared to other projects.

In Phoenix was his first year where he mostly played center. It definately helped his developement but he also clearly struggled versus more physical players that could somewhat match his speed. Here's some tape where he faced Giannis and got absolutely man-handled:

On the other hand he had his most impressive outings versus slower centers that just couldn't handle his speed and when he could play at high octane. Here's some more favorable tape vs. the Nuggets and the Lakers:

He doesn't help himself by not shooting the 3 and allowing defenders to keep a cushion. He used to get most of his points in PnRs or via putbacks but he's also developed a pretty sound inbetween game. Ultimately you want him to pop out quite a bit but he's not there yet. He improved his FT% every year and is up to 87%. He's got exeptional touch on floaters and jumpers. Additionally he's got solid numbers from midrange. At this point it's not an if but a when. And once he's got that he'll be preying on slower bigs.

Imo we could nevertheless invest in him as his floor is a useful energy big off the bench and he's a hardworking high character guy. But with our current roster makeup I wouldn't be surprised if we're going for someone bigger and more experienced.[/quote]

This post reminds me of those "prewritten" tweets of Woj's that people were talking about last week.

No more watching Marvin struggle to get up the floor. Giannis takes everyone up a notch and these young guys (except DJ, both of em) have some upside.

Torrey Craig and Giannis on the fast break will be cool to watch.

Yeah, the more I think about it Forbes has to start. You can't run a DJ/Forbes backcourt, they'd get shredded. DJ/DDV makes more sense. If DDV starts our backcourt shooting gets suspect as well. Could see a DJJrue backcourt as well. Obviously, it doesn't matter who starts as I think DDV will still get a ton of run. Buds rotations will be interesting.

You don't have to sub Augustin and Forbes in together though.

I like the more versatile guy (DDV) starting, and giving him at least a decent sample size of games to show how much his 3 point shot has improved. I still think he ends up a .370 from 3 guy.
