Re: Fire Ainge: Thanks Danny, but it's time to go
Maybe I missed it somewhere, but I'm still waiting to see a suggestion of who we should hire in place of Ainge from those who want to fire him.
Any ideas? Are you advocating we just promote Zarren? What's the plan?

People seem upset on Gordon leaving for nothing (though we still might get the S&T), but even if we do end up losing him for nothing I don’t really think it’s Ainge’s fault. Similar to Horford, Gordon got offered a ridiculous contract. Of course Gordo is going to take the money and of course Ainge isn’t going to match. Not sure what else you can do in this situation outside of trying to turn it into a S&T which he is currently doing.

He lost out on a 24 year old All Star-caliber Center for a guy who didn’t want to be here anymore, all because he got greedy and overplayed his hand.
The Celtics were the laughingstock of the sports world yesterday all due to Danny’s stupidity.
No matter how big of an Ainge fan one may be, that type of blunder is indefensible no matter which way you slice it.
I know you didn't mean Turner when you said all star caliber center so who you talking about? Turner isn't even the best center on his own team!

"But Charlotte gave Hayward all that money! Not Danny's fault!"
What this leaves out is that everyone and their mom were reporting Hayward wanted to go to Indiana, and Turner was the trade back. This deal was right there on the table from day 1 and Ainge wanted to milk it. Charlotte swooped in and got it done last minute.
Unacceptable. This is something that not only damages relations with other GMs, but also makes a team worse, all for what? Wanting to win a trade by a mile? A bad look.
Nah Jordon told Hayward he would get 120 if Harrell didn't sign in Charlotte way before yesterday. Why wouldn't he? Nothing to lose.

Ainge: Makes ECFs three times in four years with three different young, injured teams within a few of years of a full-blown rebuild.

It's easy to say Fire him in a vacuum. Who are you going to replace him with?
Dannys' GM tree: Morey, Pritchard, McDoughna (sp) you show me who has developed better GM's?

Nice to see the annual fire Danny thread, has the fire Brad been scheduled? I don't want to miss it.
Full of sound and fury; signifying nothing

You are remembering that exactly backwards. It was SMC who said that. I definitely disagreed prior to COVID, but felt the loss of league revenue *might* cause him to opt-in after that. On both sides of COVID, I advocated repeatedly for giving Hayward 3y/80-90m, lest we lose him for nothing this year or next (I would not have gone to 4y/120m though).
Further, we have had this exact same argument on this board about opt-outs every year, and every year I point out that it makes far more sense for players to opt-out even if they are giving up money in the first year.

i swear you came in a thread where they said 4 years 80m for hayward and you said he'd get way more than that on the open market. Maybe it was somebody else.

I think they said 4/70m, and yes, I did say that wasn't enough. But that is out of context and the opposite of your first point. I thought that it would take like 3/80m or 4/100m to get him to opt-out. Anything less than that, and it made more sense to play out his deal and wait a year. I was pretty confident that he could get those numbers prior to COVID if healthy, but undecided after COVID.
At the end of the day, I would have offered him 3y/80-90m as late as this past week. It would have lowered our payroll/tax bill vs him opting-in, and potentially prevented us for losing him for nothing or just a TPE. But with Charlotte offering 4y/120m, which no one on Earth saw coming, including me? You have to walk away from that.
We can make up scenarios to bash Ainge with based on sportswriter tweets or insider info, but the truth is, we have no idea what the specific offers were, how many years, how much guaranteed, what the sign-and-trade negotiations were, what Gordon's preferences truly were in the face of his actual options, etc etc etc.
But I strongly suspect that once a presumably fully-guaranteed 4y/120m from Charlotte hit the table, all the rest of it died, and that there was nothing that we could have done other than potentially finagle a large TPE to be used next offseason. Even that last part is sketchy given the hard cap implications on both sides (Charlotte now, us next year).

Turner is 24 and has had a very good career thus far. To say he couldn’t put together an All Star caliber season may be the most greener teamer, Ainge ball washing BS I’ve read on this board.
You guys would rather rag on Turner than just admit that Ainge f*cked up. Such a weird stance to take.

What’s there to believe? He said Ainge wasn’t into Turner. Well yeah, clearly he wasn’t or the deal would’ve been done.
That doesn’t mean Ainge made the right call. We still got nothing for Hayward.
And even if by some miracle Ainge convinces MJ to play ball, the potential return will be nothing compared to getting Turner & McDermott, not to mention we still would’ve had the tax payer MLE left to use.

But he didn’t want Turner at 18 million per season. Why make Indy stronger for a player you don’t want? Nevermind McDermott who is terrible and grossly overpaid

Ray, Al and now Gordon . Danny lost them all by misjudging the market and playing hardball . He also failed to understand why those guys would leave . The Celts used to be the franchise that was loyal to its players . Now that franchise is Miami . No wonder Tyler Herro said he was happy the Heat ( and not Boston) took him . Bartlestein is a snake - Danny had to know he was playing with fire. There’s a pattern with Ainge and it has cost us a lot over the past two years . I don’t see how you sugarcoat this . Hopefully we get the trade exception so that we can salvage something . Danny has done great when he drafts 1-6 but after that he’s a disaster. I hope this year is better than the prior years but Prichard sure seemed like a reach

It’s well established what Ainge didn’t want.
Me and a large majority of the fanbase disagree with his decision to pass on it. Hence why this thread is a thing.

You need to stop this. You just moved the goal posts hard, then called someone an "Ainge ball washer" based on your movement of the goal posts.
First you said he was an all-star caliber center. You got disagreed with. Then you pretended like that disagreement was making the stronger statement that he couldn't be one. Of course he could. He hasn't yet. Pointing out your exaggeration doesn't make someone an "Ainge ball washer".
