If Giannis leaves, the only acceptable destination is DAL. I feel like I could still root for him there.

The ultimate fu-k you move would be LeBron, AD & Giannis going to Chicago.

And of course Silver will not see this as tampering, even if Jeanie Buss parks a bus next to Giannis's home with a megaphone playing 24/7 telling Giannis to come play for LA.

This is such a true and underappreciated aspect of GMing.skones wrote:paulpressey25 wrote:skones wrote:
And if he doesn't sign on the line, Horst might be the dumbest **** on the planet.
Horst isn't making these decisions. He's the order taker.
And it's his job to sell Lasry on moves, and talk him out of them when they're bad.
Zach Lowe was telling a story about early in his career taking to a former GM and Zach was saying how he thought it was the owners fault on some move and the dude cut him off and explained that's a BS excuse and a big part of a GMs job is managing an owner. All owners have giant egos and honestly have more imput than people probably realize.

The Lakers couldn’t possibly add his salary right?
I’m not worried about Lakers that’s not how he would want his first championship riding the coattails of Lebron in the media’s eyes.
If he bolts to Dallas I’d probably start rooting for them. I’ve been a Bucks fan since I was a little kid in the Jay Humphries days but their ineptitude as an organization might lose me for good if Giannis leaves.

People change but absolutely nothing outside of desire to win points to Giannis in L.A.
1. He's on record saying he would NEVER go play in L.A.
2. Says he does not like superteams
Again, who knows but I would be willing to bet if he leaves he will not go to LA or probably even the Nets. I'd put money on Miami or Dallas

we're all over here over analyzing every single detail of words said by Giannis and actions committed by the front office. Meanwhile, Giannis is just chillin and playing basketball in Greece. Why do I feel like those roles should be reversed?

The only way AFAIK would be if Lebron, AD, and Giannis all agree to take relatively small contracts to fit together under the cap. At any rate, I really don't see the Lakers as a threat for Giannis.

Of course they would. Just sick of this entire generation of beta superstars. Lebron, AD, Durant, Kyrie, Harden, PG, etc. Nobody seems to want to build an actual legacy anymore. Just quit/bolt at the first sign of adversity because you're mentally soft and can't handle the mean twitter comments.

No way Giannis joins LeBron, I don’t think he likes him at all. If he leaves it’ll probably be Dallas or Miami, maybe Toronto but that seems less likely every day.

Re: Giannis Thread - 2 Time MVP - The Contract discussions
I don't think Giannis and LeBron really get along, so I don't think he'd go to the Lakers. Maybe the Clippers if Kawhi dumps PG for him, but I doubt it.
I think if he leaves, I'm looking at the Knicks, Heat, and Mavs as the most likely contenders for his signature. The Knicks because of New York (he seems to enjoy playing there) and all of their cap space to add another quality star, the Heat because of the culture, and the Mavs because of Luka. The Warriors have an outside chance, but I think they'd need to make some serious cap maneuverings to make that work. I don't see him going to Toronto - I don't think they give him a better chance to win than Milwaukee.

He's going to resign but it's going to be extraordinarily difficult to be competitive the *next* time he hits FA.
Donte cleaving along the Lowry trajectory this year would give me more optimism. We'll have enough to know whether he's got that kind of continual improvement in him after this season. Lowry took the Houston PG job from Aaron Brooks when he was Donte's age.

Re: Giannis Thread - 2 Time MVP - The Contract discussions
Why are so many NBA fans obsessed with fawning over players not on their own team? I'll never understand that mindset. Yeah, it's cool to think about players coming to your team when there are rumors, but not years out like some fans do...
This league has become more about the drama than the product on the court. I think the off-season, draft and trade deadline has become more exciting for fans than anything else.

Well they'd have to trade KCP in a straight up salary dump. Then LeBron would need to opt out and take a pay cut. Because all 3 are due to make like $40 million each I think

My source close to contract discussions says it's 50/50 that Giannis signs a supermax: either he does or he doesn't.

I dont see how it would help if all of us were over in Greece playing basketball and Giannis was analyzing every single detail of what he has said and the actions of the front office.
