Big news on Two-way contracts; 50 games

Post#1 » by drsd » Tue Nov 24, 2020 8:53 am

During the shortened 2020/21 season, two-way deals will work a little differently than usual. Rather than being limited to spending 45 days with their NBA teams, two-way players will be eligible to be active for up to 50 of their team’s 72 NBA games. And instead of having their salaries by how many days they spend in the NBA, they’ll receive flat salaries of $449,155.

This is huge news for Karim Mané and Jordan Bone.

The Magic essentially can carry a 17-man roster to the post-season.

Mané was a 5-star recruit in high-school and it is quite shocking he did not get drafted given how well he played professionally in Canada.
Bone is a more mature PG. He was solid in the G-league and looks to be a workman like player.

The Magic has a clear FIVE-player rotation at PG and that roster slot is clearly locked.

It is really quite curious to the how's-and-why's the Magic would have chosen to go this approach. A combo forward as a two-way player may have made some sense. Perhaps these PG's were signed before management knew how many games a two-way player could play.

Dwayne Bacon must have been outright signed.

Orlando must be thinking to transition Karim Mané to SG; right ?

This could be a big boost especially if The Magic are ever down two point guards as Bone can be the emergency point guard.

Very nice!

I've seen Mane listed at PG several times.

After complete fiasco of Jackson, Briscoe, Iwundu and Frazier why even bother with 2 way contracts, second round picks? They won't play nor get a chance.

Forgot about Law, BJ Johnson, that Am--something-something guy.

Complete waste to even pay attention.

Two-Way Contracts help out The G-League Team and 2nd round picks can turn out well (Marcin Gortat in 2005). In addition, Two-Way Contracts can act as emergency players when a team has a lot of injuries.

You never know the day the Magic might strike gold with one again.

btw any news about g-league schedule? have they worked that out yet? seeing that the nba is starting in less than a month then the g-league shouldn't be far behind......interested in seeing mane play against better competition to see if he was really worthy of being a 5 star recruit that might've slipped through the cracks

Howard, you literally just had to dig 15 years into past to bring one good name. Just, wow.

Most second round picks flame out of the League. There are hidden gems there and sometimes you can get them undrafted.

From what i was looking, between 31 and 50 pick, almost every year 3-5 guys turn solid.
50 to 60 # picks end up on great teams and never do much or don't even ever play single min in nba.

Wes, Birch, Dedman are all recent 2nd rd picks or UFA that have been solid enough to get 2nd contracts.
