Nope, they just need to move a few things around.

By moving a few things around they have to trade everyone except Bam, Jimmy, and Giannis for draft picks and use exceptions and minimums to fill the remaining spots.

Yeah, I don't think Bam signs the max if Saratsis knows that Giannis is planning to go to Miami next year. They'd want to use Bam's bird rights in that scenario, no?

They've done it twice in the last 15 years and they have a ton of assets to do it again.

How many guaranteed contracts do they even have on the books for next year? It's basically Jimmy, Bam, and Herro, no?

Correct. Never underestimate the Snake and his ability to work the phones (Larry Harris was a lower case "s").

Miami’s other cap commitments for 2021-22: Tyler Herro at $4 million, Kendrick Nunn (either $2.2 million or more likely $4.7 million cap hit), Duncan Robinson ($4.7 million cap hit), the Heat’s 2020 first-round pick if Miami doesn’t trade the pick (around $3 million) and KZ Okpala ($1.8 million guaranteed). Miami also has 2021-22 team options on Andre Iguodala ($15 million) and Chris Silva ($1.8 million).

It really makes no sense from a Riley standpoint to not just wait until after the season to give out the extension. They'd have so much more room to do what they want. This seems like a Horst move to appease a player.

Sure, they could still technically open up enough cap room to sign him but holding off on the Bam extension would have made things much easier and you wouldn't have to gut the roster to accommodate 3 max slots. Not gonna jump the gun and say this is a done deal, but it's sure looking inevitable that Giannis signs in the next couple days.

Yeah the only way it makes sense is if Bam was VERY adamant about getting that contract now and they felt Giannis would be thrown off by him being disgruntled.

I'm guessing Riley tried his best to hold off Bam. But you've seen all the media push from some players for Bam to get paid. And frankly, I'd much rather have $163mm guaranteed to me this week, than risk it over some Giannis stuff. I'm sure Bam pushed very hard to get his money. And well deserved.

I didn’t know that BAM and Giannis have the same agent. That makes BAMs signing more encouraging to me. Might have told him and Miami that Giannis is staying.

The idea of waiting on the rookie extensions for cap reasons is always something that fans/media talk about but for the most part players want that financial stability right away.

This could be a sign that Giannis is extending but it also could simply be Bam telling his agent you work for me and I want that deal now. He could have also told the heat if he didn't get that extension now he'll go into RFA next year and get a 3+1 offer sheet. (Something I wondered if Brandon Ingram might try this winter).
