Woods apparently S&T now with Houston

Post#1 » by BIG BEN'S FRO » Sat Nov 21, 2020 8:15 pm

Woods' Salary was bumped to 41M. Brian Edwards reported that this is now a S&T for Ariza. More importantly it says we got more protections on the first rounder we gave up, as well as got an additional second rounder back. Any other confirmation on this?

Yes, this has been reported but I haven't found the new details of the first round pick protection anywhere yet.

Read on Twitter

So 2023 and 2024 were top 16, go to top 18, 2025 and 2026 were top 10 and go to top 13 and top 11 and 2027 is still top 9 protected.

So in 2026 or 2027, we’re going to send the Rockets our 1st rounder....

Thanks for taking Wood. Here’s a pick for your trouble

I like how it gets more protected in 2023 and 2024.

Clearly Weaver plans for us to peak as a 6 seed in 2024, before blowing things up again.

Genius.

We are sending a 2021 second rounder as well? Seems like we automatically add second rounders to every trade we make.

Little different protections on that pick but irreverent in the grand scheme of things.

This was the LAL Top 55 Protected 2021 SRP that was sold to Houston for $4.3M in the initial deal.

Apologies if this was discussed in one of you're previous threads. But why did Detroit give up a pick in this deal? I thought Detroit was getting that Stewart pick to take Ariza's contract and then Wood being a S&T would be helping Houston so why is Detroit giving compensation.

Am I missing something from a cap perspective?

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Because Troy Weaver is getting schooled by every other GM he makes transactions with. He then proceeded to make it worse by re-routing Ariza in a 3 way to get Delon Wright who unlike Ariza isn't on an expiring contract. Oh and Weaver sent out a draft pick in that move as well, just for extra effect.

It really isn't that complicated:

We got a asset (Ariza) for a dude we weren't bringing back regardless (Wood)

We get Stewart for that insanely protected first.

Both teams throw in a 2nd cause that's fun

Weaver got schooled? How?

He wasn't going to bring Wood back and instead of letting him walk for nothing he actually got Ariza...and flipped him too!

Because usually when you swallow a $12 + mil contract, you don't send the team that is benefitting from the salary relief draft compensation.

We gave them that heavily protected first for Stewart

Guess we just look at the deal differently

We gave them a protected 1st + $12 mil in raw cap relief for Stewart.

Houston used that cap relief to help Bring in Wood.

If that's how you see it then that's how you see it.

I see it as I explained above - we got a asset for someone we weren't going to bring back.

The fact we flipped him for Wright makes it even better for Weaver since he removed a vet Casey might've played over Bey, Sekou, Jackson & Musa while getting a guard we can actually use.

Yeah we are on much different thought processes here. The way I see it, flipping Ariza for Wright is much worse because casey is gonna ride Wright much to the Detriment of Killian Hayes. And Wright has 2 year remaining on his contract, while Ariza is on an expiring contract.

Casey is going to ride Wright over Killian?

Why do you believe that?

Other than his Memphis stint (26 games) Delon Wright has never averaged over 23 minutes per game in his 5 seasons.

Because I believe the Casey connection played a large role in bringing in Wright. If Wright plays 20 minutes, and Rose gets his 20+, where does that leave Killian?
