How good does Hayes have to be for you to forget about rebuild

Post#1 » by AnnArborpiston » Wed Nov 25, 2020 1:20 am

If he's a 20/7 rookie, would you be excited for the playoffs knowing he's the star we've been waiting for? Or do we want to tank no matter how good this kid can be?

Not gonna happen but hes got to have a Ja Morant type of impact.

With Rose & Griffin healthy we still won't make any noise but when you get a player like Morant, Luka, Zion etc I want to maximize that rookie contract.

20/7?

I'd be happy with Hayes getting 20 MPG with a combined APG + RBG of 7.

Even if Hayes is Doncic 2.0, this team is far too short on overall talent to even entertain the idea of trying to compete.

Better than he's got any chance of being in his rookie year.

Kid is 19 and in order for me to not want a top 5 2021 pick he's gonna have to be prime CP3.

That ain't gonna happen...

Based in recent posts we should probably expect him to play less than 25 per and appear in 50 games or so.

I want a top 5 pick in 2021! NEED it!

Hayes, Sekou, Bey, Musa, Stewart (all 21 or younger) plus Grant plus that pick?

Even with Plumlee, Blake & some minimum vets or even vets signed with exceptions?

Still gonna suck and land a quality pick in 2022 too

He will be as good as the minutes given to him.

I have sky high expectations of Hayes. If he plays 30+mpg I demand, he will average 17 7 4 while showing amazing playmaking, and a consistent ability to run a team.

In reality he won't play the minutes the team picked him for, and ill be pissed off all season.

He's probably the 3rd best rookie on our team in January and February. He has a ton of upside but its almost certain that both Bey and Stewart are going to be better out of the gate.

I'd be shocked if Hayes was a 16 and 6 player for us this year with high TOs and a poor % I think its safe to say there are going to be a lot of learning pains with Hayes this year hopefully we let him play through them and we aren't chasing that #10 seed.

Rookie PGs, even future all-star types, often suck. Add in foreign, 19, and a bizarre roster... you gotta keep the initial expectations down. Look for signs of learning, enjoy the occasional nice game, and expect little.

No matter how good he is, Pistons need a top 3 pick next draft.

If he is Luka good, then he "gets hurt" so the team can tank. Any other choice is dumb as hell. If we struck Luka gold with Hayes, you add another superstar youngster and laugh all the way to the Playoffs for the next 10 years.

We all like Killian, but a few things need to be remembered:

1) First game is a month after he was drafted
2)He’s 19
3) He was the 7th pick in a weak draft

Expectations especially for year one must be managed.

As such there is no reasonable outcome that makes you forget the rebuild. He’d need like a top 5 rookie season all time to even entertain that.

I want a top 3 pick in the next 2 drafts so Hayes would have to average Harden numbers for me to forget about that. But even still, getting a couple of top 3 pick to pair with Hayes if he produces well should always be the goal.

I think he’ll be around a 9 pt., 4 asst. guy his rookie year on about 20-25 minutes a game. He’ll have a steep learning curve and will take his lumps early and often, so they’ll keep his minutes down until he gets his legs under him. But I think he’s probably got the talent, mental makeup, and work ethic to push through the valleys, and will start showing us what we’ve hoped for during the last quarter of the season.

But as far as making me forget about the rebuild? No way. They need a lottery pick next year (and hopefully the year after).

Wow I completely forgot the season is starting in less than a month.

Yah this will probably be a very tough year for him out of the gate.
