I honestly would've preferred to keep McRae instead but I don't mind Ellington. Playing time should be earned from everywhere....one of the biggest failures was handing Stuckey playing time without making him earn it. I'm all for competition, as long as Casey plays the guys that are performing. No more of his Thon Maker playing over Christian Wood type bs that was pulled last season.

Ellington means Josh Jackson slides into the backup SF slot instead of backup SG. And now Bey is buried.

SG - Svi / Ellington / McGruder
SF - Grant / Jackson / Bey

Ellington will be waving a towel on the bench. He wasn't brought here to play imo.
And Grant I just cant see him playing much SF. Sekou, Bey, Jackson should get majority of SF minutes.
I'd seriously start Blake as a stretch Center lol

We signed Ellington to play him.

You think we signed him to be a vet wing we could pay to waive a towel on the bench?

We already had that - McGruder.

Yeah, people need to consider these signings from the player's point of view as well the team's.

If he's relegated to a minimum contract, and Ellington is mostly a bench riding locker room presence type, I have a hard time seeing why he would choose that role in Detroit over any number of better teams. As a minimum contract, he was an option for literally all 30 teams. Im sure there were more than a handful that would have brought him in at the minimum.

Although, I suppose its possible he enjoyed his time in Detroit for whatever reason and wanted to come back. Still I gotta believe potential playing time was discussed during his negotiations.

You guys have short memory. Tellem was Ellington's agent and they're close. That's why he came play for us in the first time, and that's probably why we got him again.

Blake is more suited to play as Center and Grant had great +/- playing as center for Denver last season. He is not a SF.

Yessss, so there it is. We figured it out lol. Grant and Blake up front with Plumlee and Sekou backups. Boom
Bey and Jackson SF.
SVI and Hayes start with Delon Rose off bench. Or vice versa doesnt matter. All 4 will split time roughly the same.

I don't actually have an issue with the signing, but moreso the fact that Casey will likely play him more than he should in front of the young guys.

I expect Ellington's minutes to be far greater in the first third of the season while they see where the rookies are at and they get used to the NBA. The first two dozen games are really more of a summer league replacement for the rookies.

I can’t see Blake playing any center this year.
