Re: Free Agency, Rumors, Thoughts in General 2.0
Hollis-Jefferson can absolutely help a team that has enough shooting around him and needs some playmaking and defense and athleticism. Minnesota, Milwaukee (Giannis backup), OKC (if they want to win, but they probably don't) and coming back to Toronto (seems unlikely with the Bembry signing) look like the only really good fits though. But yeah he can play. It looked like Chiozza could to, and some teams need a 3rd PG upgrade.
Where's the D?

Every team leaks self-serving stuff. What gets Ainge is his sheer volume of it.
And I don't care who is leaking this if Ainge didn't take Turner and a first for free he is in fact an idiot.
Ive never said i agree with Ainge’s valuation of Turner. Feel free to post search me too, I was quite critical of Ainge and feel like he should be on the hot seat after this.
But multiple national writers have talked about this deal and no one has mentioned a first. Local guys on both sides talked about it all week long and never mentioned the inclusion of a first.
And now I’m supposed to believe an incredibly self serving leak from Indy that contradicts Zach Lowe? Yah right.

Yes TPE will last through the offseason unlike Batum and no salary back in a trade a lot better than Batum’s corpse at 27m. Only upside on Batum is the ability to later aggregate.
Understand, it's more attractive for another team as they take no salary back but by midseason Batum will be at about 18m.
Batum allows you to aggregate but you can also re-sign him next season over the cap. Far less restrictive.
I think the 30m TPE is slightly more valuable but 27m batum and another piece is pretty attractive.
They don’t have room under the hard cap to take in Batum. Not nearly enough. They’d have to trade a major starter or two to fit him in at this point since they’ve committed their MLE and bae to signings Thompson and Teague.

Has any national writer written anything that didn’t just casually cite the tweet from Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe? Essentially, you’ve got the Boston Globe out a bunch of stuff out during the negotiations. Now, Indy sources are putting out what they can find. Likely there’s something in between, but also who knows?
One thing we do know is that Pritchard made it clear during his press conference yesterday without saying his name that he was upset at Danny Ainge and Boston negotiating through the press and leaking names immediately.
As for the first, I’m guessing it was a negotiating step late in the game, but probably one that required Boston taking on Lamb’s multi year deal instead of McDermott’s expiring?

Zach Lowe mentioned looking around on the Lowe Post. He said it was Turner based packages. Said Ainge did not value Turner. Said Ainge called around the league to see what he could get for Turner and that it also wasnt what he wanted. Did not mention a FRP. Gonna trust him over a local mouthpiece.

Re: Free Agency, Rumors, Thoughts in General 2.0
Just posting this as a CBA tidbit! When Ariza was traded, there was discussion about when a player with an unguaranteed/partially guaranteed contract was traded, whether the teams
1) had to guarantee a player's *entire* contract in order to use him as salary matching, or
2) they only had to guarantee enough to make the trade work financially.
Apparently it's the latter, as that's what happened here:

Somehow I missed this yesterday. Gallinari given his role before signing. Maybe the old guy likes the idea of being given a lesser minutes load as a backup.

I mean $20M to play bench minutes is a pretty good gig.Buzzard wrote:Somehow I missed this yesterday. Gallinari given his role before signing. Maybe the old guy likes the idea of being given a lesser minutes load as a backup.

I agree it is. This does guard against injury and he can still get 25 minutes a game pretty easily.

No one has any clue what is leaked to be self serving and what I just some rumor floated. Boston has more picks than any team the last decade and has already built one super team through Ainge so people will already have it in their minds that they’re trying to get every big name out there wether it’s true or not. Any single rumor out there involving Boston is automatically a “leak” by Ainge. It’s funny that a weak ago the narrative is that there was no way Indy would offer Turner for Hayward, yet now adding a first to that speaks more to Ainge being a horrible gm more so than how the league could potentially see Turner.....The guy can’t win either way.

? Outside of Washburns one tweet what was all the stuff the Globe leaked? Both Marc Stein and Zack Lowe initially reported the Pacers interest in a sign and trade, neither were citing Washburn. Also which part in his press conferance did he insinuate he was upset with Ainge? All he said was he prob overplayed it a big...

For the record I've mostly been an Ainge defender. But the amount of we almost got player X, Y, and Z stuff that comes out is comical and definitely has ties to him.
I agree that their asset base in prior years made them a classic stalking horse for teams looking to move stars and some of that I'm sure was overblown. But if we just stick to stuff directly attributable to Ainge or known mouthpieces its a lot.
I think its fair to laugh at Ainge for that trend while recognizing that overall he's been a good GM.
And yes it does sound like this board valued Turner more than teams do. And undervalued Hayward--though I was clearly a guy who believed in his value still personally.

Re: Free Agency, Rumors, Thoughts in General 2.0
A Pacer pick isn't worth as much as some. They have finished once in the lottery in the last ten seasons, and outside of the George Hill trade (which cost them Kawhi Leonard--picked 15th), trading picks hasn't hurt them much. The one time they picked in the lottery, they picked for themselves, and got Miles Turner.

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^

Seems like for Gallo, it may be more about quality minutes than a token starting job.
Hawks went into the offseason looking for a backup PF, and got one. High priced yes, but filled a very specific need.

Pritchard talked about how he didn’t want to mention any names in the proposals and he hates when that happens and when other guys try and negotiate that way. He respects the players and other teams too much to do that, etc.

I think most saw Bertans as that player for the Hawks. I like Gallanari better and neither would be starting over Collins. The Hawks got a player I like more to fill a role most thought we needed. I am good with it.
When you factor in the 5 million partial guarantee for the 3rd season, Gallinari leaves the Hawks with a lot more flexibility than Bertans for 5 years and 80 million.

The jury is still out on Turner's value around the league. What I am saying is Ainge and Boston does not set his value for 28 other teams. Until Turner is traded, we really don't know what his value is.
I thought Hayward had good value but only if delivered long term.
